the destruction of our cities was because of the automobile industry (and also racism but that's a whole different story)
there's no reason we can't have cities with walkable and livable downtowns and still have our modern highway system between those cities

yeah it was definitely the streetcars...
>Troost Avenue was once the eastern edge of Kansas City, Missouri and a residential corridor nicknamed Millionaire Row. It is now widely seen as one of the city's most prominent racial and economic dividing lines due to urban decay, which was caused by white flight.[26][27] During the civil rights era the city blocked people of color from moving to homes west of Troost Avenue, causing the areas east of Troost to have one of the worst murder rates in the country. This led to the dominating economic success of neighboring Johnson County.[28]

>In 1950, African Americans represented 12.2% of Kansas City's population.[20] The city's most populous ethnic group, non-Hispanic whites,[29] declined from 89.5% in 1930 to 54.9% in 2010.[20]

>During the civil rights era the city blocked people of color from moving to homes west of Troost Avenue, causing the areas east of Troost to have one of the worst murder rates in the country.
How on earth does the second part follow from the first?! That's an insane sentence. Blacks were barred from living on the west side of town so they settled the east side and instead of making the best of it, they decided to murder each other at above war zone levels. This is the fucking gaslighting of our history we are forced to put up with for some reason even though anyone who has ever interacted with blacks in any major city knows is bullshit.

Yes :) my shitters'. My parents house is in the area on the bottom right corner. Nice houses there, a giant park next to the stadium, other sporting fields and a big museum across the road. HSV‘s Volksparkstadion (capacity of 60,000) is in a good neighborhood in Hamburg, inside a large park (the Volkspark). The public transit could be better and will only be updated in like 10 years at best, but in terms of location, it is pretty ideal
The club’s new stadium will apparently be built there as well. The current Volksparkstadion is relatively old and too small for today’s standards.

Nice area ... hard to say. But I struggle thinking about stadiums in bad areas as well. Most stadiums I can think of are somewhat near the city center (good), often in or near park areas (good), and seldomly in poor or run-down neighborhoods, but usually not in very high-class areas either unless the stadiums are very old

It's the home ground of the Mannheim Tornados, the record champion of the German Baseball league (now called DBL) with 10 titles. Mannheim also produced four other German baseball champion teams, more than anyone else. So you'd expect there to be quite a bit of baseball culture ... going by German standards. But the Tornados and Mannheim as a whole haven't won a title since 1997 and are not part of the first tier anymore: they got relegated for the first time in 2023
