From 21 over .500 in June to missing the playoffs entirely, this LOLMETSing is worth roughly $340,000,000 USD. One for the ages folks, LOLMETS!

Guys, I really thought this was the year. From making the NLCS on a fluke last year and the incredible comeback season to their start this year, it really seemed like it might finally come to the end.

Kids who can remember the Mets winning are all middle aged by now. How many times can a team manage to blow it on the last game of the season?

They were a .652 team halfway through the season...
>>
wow, so baseball really is nothing but random chance?
>>
>>151065937
No, if that was true then the Mets would have at least won one in the last 40 years...

This should have 300 replies. I fear for the health of this board, LOLMEST was a perennial classic round these parts

So glad they got eliminated today in the final game of the season than yesterday to make the comparison to 2007 complete.

This is why I don't come around /sp/ much anymore its been completely taken over by Euro soccer shit. 15 years ago there would have been 20 >MEST threads. I dropped by just to look for this and was completely disappointed

I've never understood why someone could be a fan of the Mets when they could be a fan of the Yankees.

What? The Mets have never made the postseason three years in a row in their entire existence. What do you mean "perennial playoff team"?

Law of large numbers. The more games played, the more teams will drift to their true average, unlike shorter seasons
>>
I really thought that they would be going all the way this year. It all started out so promising.
Team is truly cursed.

The best part was the Reds even lost. All the Mest had to do was beat the Marlins. Look forward to the WC, Redsfags.

There was a mets general like 15 years ago of some retarded looking girl trying to look hot while in a mets shirt back when the mets general was called mest. That image is what the mets are to perfection.

they had 2 starters who could go past 5 innings. the other was a rookie who was promoted in August. This is what happens when you have a team that had their veterans absolutely fail, while their offense was inconsistent. forget payroll, it just shows how important depth is

we really are just baseball arselel...

the problem is that this year was supposed to be the bridge between the veterans to rookies. the veterans absolutely bobbled everything while the rookies (obviously) struggled. Throwing Sproat, Tong and McLean was done because Manaea, Montas, Senga, Peterson and Megill couldn't stay healthy or were flat out awful. Fans will hate David Stearns but the Mets weren't getting much in free agency pitching, and Max Fried was never coming to the Mets. Unless fans thought that Nick Pivetta or Nate Eovaldi would've chosen us, I doubt they were going to make drastic changes.

the more embarrassing thing is that fans think we suck because they let go of Jose Iglesias and Luis Severino, when the reality is that both were one year wonders and maxed out their career value.
>>
>>151080916
I agree that the moves in many cases were defensible. This is on the shitty play. Like Helsley, didnt he have a sub-2 ERA before he got traded? Then on the Mets he was a 10 ERA? What the FUCK is that?

>Throwing Sproat, Tong and McLean was done because Manaea, Montas, Senga, Peterson and Megill couldn't stay healthy or were flat out awful.

McLean is ready. Sproat and Tong aren't. You can't blame those guys.

>Manaea, Montas, Senga, Peterson and Megill couldn't stay healthy or were flat out awful.
I'd be fine never seeing a single one of them pitch in a Mets uniform again. Just get rid of all of them.

>the more embarrassing thing is that fans think we suck because they let go of Jose Iglesias and Luis Severino, when the reality is that both were one year wonders and maxed out their career value.
Yea both those guys were bums on their new teams. And also, look, Clay Holmes did about as well as Severino did last year. For some reason fans showered praise on Severino but shit on Holmes when they were about the same level of production.

Helsley got cold feet. I think he isn't made for NYC at all and he was also tipping pitches. The other issue i got is how the roster in general was just Lindor, Soto, Alonso...and then automatic outs every time and maybe someone got hot. Vientos was the biggest retard of the bunch who couldn't hit, Marte and McNeil were basically singles or doubles only with few walks and stolen bases, Alvarez and Torrens was a mediocre plate duo, and the maddening inconsistency of Brandon Nimmo hurt.

The roster in general needs to get guys who can hit in bunches. They really need a Max Muncy, Jorge Polanco, Steven Kwan or even Pavin Smith kind of guy. Also felt like the bench was super thin since Winker got injured, while Mauricio and Acuna were net negatives. again, payroll cant dictate how good a roster will be when its on a field.

I got back into baseball because of lockdowns.

said I wouldnt watch at all this year except for the opening series, but damn it felt like this was the year until june. glad I stopped after the all star break. ill still catch opening day and hit up a few games IRL with the mates, but not watching this shit team on tv.
>>
>>151081094
vientos pissed me off like none other. looked completely lost during his at bats, and tries to act like a "cool swaggy V gangster" with his mumbling and thick accent during interviews.

like nigga you from NORWALK CONNECTICUT and you are pretending you cant speak english better than your venezuelan fob teammates.

that'll be $400 million plus tip, sir
>>
>>151088437
He's the first to go, and I dont even think he has a Kevin Mitchell tier redemption. Hoodrat needs to get the fuck out of here. the biggest problem with the roster is that HE was supposed to take the big step forward. He barely had more RBI's than Baty and his play was insanely inconsistent. At least when it came to Baty he was humble. Vientos acted like a fucking retard. He cost himself a job with his glove and awful running. I genuinely think that if the team wants to be successful, then trade Vientos, Mauricio and Acuna. You have better third base and even 2nd base prospects in the minor leagues.
