I think the best way to analyze the failures of Victor Rodriguez as a hitting coach is to look at Jake Cronenworth. The guy started with the Padres, came up in their system, went from being a back to back all star second basemen with 20+ home run seasons as the rightful #2 batter until Soto and Profar came along that rightfully justified an extension, to being a nothing factor. His slug dropped a near .100 from his best full season after Victor became hitting coach. I don't think this was some natural regression, no man drops off that hard after turning 30. Whoever was hitting coach in 2021 or 2022 was the best choice for the Padres lineup and it's insane they let him go.
