>>1511365412022Not because of Messi (he deserved it) but because they made it in December just to please the Arabs
>>151136541>2030>6 countries, 3 continentswhy not just round it out and have one in all the other continents too, including antarctica fuck it dood
2010
>>1511365412018 was the last good one>One host>32 teams>June/JulyThese next ones are going to be peak slop. Infantino is the worst thing to happen to FIFA.
>>151136541You could see the writing on the wall for 2010 already, they wanted to give it to Africa really bad to virtue signal. They already wanted South Africa to win 2006. But 2010 is still alright because they didn’t go crazy with their agenda, and we ended up with very passionate hosts. 2010 was alright!2014 was a very obvious corruption result and many Brazilians were mad themselves. But you can’t be mad over a World Cup in Brazil, it still was great. 2014 was fine!2018 is where it began to feel a bit stale. Russia hosting after having waged war feels a bit wrong. But it’s a legit host in general, Russians still put in effort 2022 is undoubted the point of no return. Qatar, a peninsula smaller in area than most relevant agglomerations, a place with zero football history and like 200,000 ethnic Qataris, bought the World Cup. Then they used modern slave labor and, much worse, hosted the tournament in winter - breaking the original promise. They also broke other promises. But it continues to get worse because now we have 48 and soon 64 team Cups in three host countries or more … unless Saudi-Arabia wants to host
these matches in Argentina Paraguay and Peru are a shot in the foot, absolutely retarded to waste Conmebol turn to host a WC like that for three pity matches>oh but the centenary!
>>151137011So 2022 is the first shit cup due to winter and the lack of Qatar‘s qualification, with 2026 and following increasing the load. But 2002 might be the first real sign of what was to come: two hosts away from the classic markets (not like these two had no football culture at all, but FIFA really wanted to get more out of them) and very nonchalant favoritism
>>151136581December was better for tv viewership in Europe
>>151137060I agree, joint bids were a mistakebut with that being said, Great Britain WC when?
>>1511365412026, the 32-team format was a perfect medium and now we're going to have multiple hosts for most world cups going forward (something which used to be a novelty)>>151136640You're being facetious but they very obviously did it because of the "continent can only be picked once every 3 WCs" rule, so by smashing the argentina/uruguay/paraguay and spain/portugal/morocco bids together 2034 could only be in asia or oceania, paving the way for saudi arabia
>>151136541clearly 2022 spelled the end. i don't know where we go from here, as we're set for a decade of slop and a return to the soulless arab oil fields. in the end, everyone will complain, but everyone will still watch, so maybe it's time to embrace the dystopia. getting a lot of practice with that here in the US
>>151136581Either you're too old to enjoy new things but WC in december was kino>players have enough pace and were not too tired>days after the final was Christmas
>>151136541Why not just host the whole thing in Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay if they're going to do three countries across two continents?
>>151136541
>>151136541Every worlc up is rigged so the 1st one which is not pictured.
2010 was a shitty tournament but those happen from time to time. 2014 was probably the first tournament I cared less about because this time zone sucked for watching games. Russia was fairly good, though (the knock-out games sucked but the group stage was kino). Qatar was just... yeah. A shitty desert host with a tea towel mascot, taking place in the middle of the ordinary season, and determined to rig it for the star player at Qatar's club. Sadly, the next one looks even worse.
>>151138217Based
>>1511365412010 when Russia was selected to host. That WC turned out decent, but it was the first sign that FIFA was really putting money ahead of anything else in the selection process. The excuse was that it was mean to stimulate interest, but that was just bullshit. Eerily similar in a was to when our retarded committee gave the Nobel Peace Prize to Obama for not being Bush. Ruined the credibility of it since the stated selection criteria were ignored.
South Korea
>>151137338ThisThe whole concept of a WC is Qatar was awful but the December part was kino as hell.
I mean it still kinda retains its magic because there's only one every 4 years. 48 teams is what will kill it because the overall level will plummet dramatically, you could even argue that going from 24 to 32 teams was already a mistake. Like can you even count 8 NTs that truly play good football? Already with 32 you get a wc clogged with shitters.
>>151136581December was because it was too hot in summer you silly chud
>>151139059to be fair they also hosted it quite well, people who went said it was good. The quality of matches was good too and it being in Qatar meant no lgbt stuff was allowed which was also good.I agree with people saying they shouldn't have been selected as host, there was corruption, they also didn't build the air conditioned stadiums and need to improve their workers safety and conditions. There's genuine stuff there, what I don't like about the criticism is the islamophobic stuff
>>1511365412018

>>151136541Unironically England not getting the 2018 WC>inb4>tf>tpI mean look at the slop since 2018 (and whats coming up) and tell me that any of them deserve the honour more than England.

>>151137372We wouldn't be able to reach FIFA standards in time. They should just do Iberia
>>1511365412018 was when we first moved from the usual host nation controversies and harmless corruption to very questionable decisions. But I still had a lot of fun watching the games and it was a good World Cup. 2022 was the worst World Cup I've ever watched in every aspect. Shit games, shit venues, shit host nation. And looking at the upcoming events we can tell we've crossed the point of no return.>>151137372Saudi Arabia can't wait for Europe, Africa and South America to have their turns. Just mash them all together and get done with it already so that we can have a World Cup in KSA already.
Objectively speaking, 1970 seems like the start of the decline.
>>151138521dude, kissinger got a nobel prize way before obama, that thing has been ruined for much longer than that
>>1511365412014, even though Spain will win the next one against Portugal or the other way around.
2006 was the last great one and the euro 2008 was the last hurray of the civilized world.2010 acceptable, 2014 endurable but after that it's slop.
The Euros start getting a bit shaky in 2008 and 2012 before losing a lot in 2016 when they expanded. 2020* is the point of no return here because of the fucked up continental tournament with mega-retarded groups. Theoretically, the Euros can be redeemed more easilyThe World Cup starts looking down the abyss in 2002, but doesn't actually step to the edge until 2018. In 2022, it finally jumps. And it hits the ground in 2026
>>151140223I just think it's weird that, say Spain or the United States don't have enough venues to host a World Cup alone anymore, but Saudi Arabia and Qatar are perfect sole hosts. It's so obvious bribery happens that it just becomes the law.
>>151143047It is ridiculous indeed. Qataris broke so many promises during their campaign and the tournament, and now look at all the new Saudi stadium designs and tell me: will they actually do this? Even if, what for in the long run? And yet, FIFA plays the "sustainability" fiddle at the same time, as if it isn't a massive contradictionApart from the expansion to 48 being clutter in general as well as the obvious result of FIFA buying votes of African and Asian associationsAnd sacrificing the 100th anniversary of the World Cup to hand 2034 to the Saudis is the cherry on top
>>1511365412006 is the last legitimate world cup, 2010 if you want to really stretch it.
I’ve been to all of those and the best, overall, was France 98. It really was that good. Russia drastically exceeded my expectations and South Africa was decent. 2002 was not good. Excellent hosts but it was rigged and the football wasn’t greatIf you ever get a chance to go to a World Cup in any capacity, go. You will not regret it. Even with all the baggage, shit, corruption, crime, violence, it is still the sort of thing you need to go to as a football fan if you can. Every tournament is burned in my memory
>>151142771If Portugal makes it to the final they will riggi it for Oldnaldo.

>>151136541RussiaIt was too sterile, lacked a soulRussia in 1990s souls be kino with crime and poverty
>>151138521Don't forget that Russia and Qatar were selected at the same time. Russia seemed like a great choice compared to fucking Qatar. In 2010 no one even know what Qatar was.
