back in lance days there's the same decline interest from existing fans but more interest for cycling in general and inflow of new fans. pog is not quite as influential but impact should be similar. old fans are basically captive and don't really matter.

What doesn't help is the endless stream of youth riders coming out of the blue. Recent years you could get excited with rider progression, now babies are winning big from a very young age. I loved watching the Yates twins for example. Their slow steady improvements and watching their palmares increase in prestige. It's a vastly different sport and it's not been positive. Seems every fan is deflated and disengaged with the sport to some degree.
