Tailgating is nice for college campuses but isn't great for NFL, especially in a massive parking lot.

I like Charlotte's set up where people just go to bars/restaurants before the game rather than tailgate. And its in the CBD so there's plenty of office parking garages to park in. And if you really want to tailgate badly there's still some undeveloped lots nearby for now.
>>
>>151257612
Majority of NFL stadiums are actually built near train stations. KC, Miami, Dallas are exceptions, and FIFA picked all 3.
>>
>>151257612
because we all have cars and don't need to take the train (there's a bus for the handful of poorfags)

I live in walking distance to the stadium but otherwise I would take the train to NFL/MLS games.
>>
>>151257712

If there's a mistaken decision to be made, FIFA will be up that like a rat up a drainpipe. You will still (genuinely) get people trying to walk to games tho.

>>151257612
Also, NFL teams only have 8-9 home games a year, so its difficult to justify expensive real estate on solely NFL unless they share the stadium with other tenants. That's why many of them are just built on the cheapest land outside a city. This is less common in MLB, NBA, NHL, MLS, since they all have much more home games.

But today the trend is actually to build an entertainment district around the stadium rather than having a gigantic moat of parking. But that doesn't really work for NFL due not having many games, unless the stadium is right next to the other sports.
>>
>>151257776
huh? Why not both?

Going to the game then strolling to the bars afterwards is a pleasant experience.

Imagine posting this when your country is notorious and laughed at for building Africa-tier houses that people can destroy bare handed and are sold for millions of dollars.

Not too long ago I stumbled upon a timelapse video of an appartement complex being build downtown in a big city, and they were building the structure using wood. Fucking WOOD lmao. Like what is this, 1774?
>>
>>151257864
Building with wood is more cost effective and works well. I enjoy living in a wooden apartment. The first floor has to be built with concrete though, and that erases any fire risk.

If we didn't build with wood, housing costs would be much more expensive here. I would not be willing to pay more for a concrete apartment.

probably an actual good explanation.
In (most) Europe, that wouldn't be allowed, you'd need to demonstrate prior public transport capacity, or viable plans to add such, beforehand.
>>
>>151257942
Why would we not use a useful abundant resource? We can afford concrete, but it would make construction costs go up, and therefore rent would go up also, which is undesirable. Construction is already a cost diseased industry as is.

I would live in my current wooden apartment building over a 60-year-old concrete apartment any day of the week. Its spacious, new, has a balcony, modern appliances, and a community pool/gym. New wooden apartments are way better than just having an aging housing stock.
>>
>>151257864

>>
>>151259307
Why are you so angry that some people like having places by the stadium rather than just a massive moat of parking?
>>
>>151258786
>Protip tho: 1 mile of metal track ≠ $100-$250 million.
Of course one mile of actual steel rail doesn't cost that. Probably <1% of that. But there's years of pointless studies and hearings to determine the route, the cost of buying the land, legal challenges, more hearings, more consultants, more lawyers, the engineering cost itself, the labor for clearing, grading, and building it, and a lot of graft, kickbacks, incompetence and outright theft that goes along with major public projects makes the cost spiral out of control. And that figure doesn't include additional infrastructure like stations. If you can put rail in an urban area for under $100,000,000 per mile now, you're getting a bargain.

>>151258992
Decades ago waterfronts were considered places for industry. There were factories, ports, and docks all along them. They were often heavily polluted and undesirable places to be. It made sense to run freeways near or through them.
>>
>>151259316
Im not other guy, but youre fucking retarded if peak tailgating takes place any where other than a massive parking lot. The places next to university stadiums that people tailgate at are called campuses. NFL teams don't have their own university so there's not a campus adjacent to them. And even when you tailgate at a college football game, you're usually doing it in various smaller parking lots around campus. It's not a big deal either way
>>
>>151259351
Peak tailgating is on a green college campus.
>Passing the football and mingling with everyone else and having the game day spread and getting too drunk to walk is literally what the point of tailgating is.

>>

KC (the subject of this thread) does not. Neither do Dallas, Houston or Miami, who are also World Cup stadiums.

Foxboro and Meadowlands do have an adjacent mall. LA and Philadelphia are building one and should eventually be nice. Seattle and Atlanta have downtown stadiums.
>>
>>151261170
>I'm just saying that NFL stadiums being in downtown is superior.
I don't think so

Puts a damper on tailgating because parking is now done with decks where open flames are prohibited. Even without the cooking, it's not a nice place to be to enjoy the pregame atmosphere.

They create a unattractive superblock. Usually the area around downtown NFL stadiums is a dead zone because the stadium is used for <12 games a year (including shitty preseason ones). There are a handful of other events going on like monster truck rallies but even those are few and far between.

Concerts, share with MLS team, hold other events, some neutral site college games, it ends up being used quite a few weekends of the year. Stadiums don't really take up that much space if there's not much parking around them. Not to mention in most downtowns of US cities a stadium taking up space is the least of concerns as far as land use goes. Its not like they're replacing a lively neighborhood, they're replacing surface parking and old warehouses.

DUDE I just LOVE the hustle and bustle of the big city, it's so DYNAMIC and makes me feel like I'm in one of my favourite TV SHOWS. You should totally come on down to my studio apartment, it's got EXPOSED RED BRICK walls and everything, we can crack open a nice hoppy IPA or three and get crazy watching some cartoons on Adult Swim! And dude, dude, DUDE, we have GOTTA go down to the barcade- listen here, right, it's a BAR where us ADULTS who do ADULTING can go DRINK. BUT!!!! It's also an ARCADE like when we were kids, so we can play awesome VIDEO GAMES, without dumb kids bothering us. Speaking of which, Megan and I have finally decided to tie the knot- literally -we're both getting snipped tomorrow at the hospital, that way we can save money to spend more on ourselves and our FURBABIES. I'm fuckin JACKED man, I'm gonna SLAM this craft beer and pop another one!!!

The stadiums are over 50 years old. They were picked because the county, who paid for the stadiums, offered that land
>When Kansas City was unable to find a suitable location for a new stadium, Jackson County stepped in and offered a location on the eastern edge of town near the interchange of Interstate 70 and Interstate 435.
The old stadium that these two replaced wasn't out in the middle of nowhere btw

>Why does wood make Europeans seethe so much
This goes back to their cultural upbringing and genetics, where Euros openly see any nature as dystopian and uncivilized. See this actual European article on how they see woods. They have engraved it as legends where big bad wolf comes to eat their kids and bad mythical shit happens. They see it as untamed by them, and they need to create an artificial, unnatural society to remove it.
That is why since the 1700s it has been chop chop chop down the forests, and their manifest destiny was to remove all forests and nature from Europe. They have so little that outside Nordics they could not build with wood if they tried, so they do with concrete, and to them everything should be concrete and asphalt (see their town/city centers fully paved with zero trees, no grass outside highly fertalized, or shade)
It to me makes them a fake, artificial, low society. One that matches the war, rape, killings, genocides that has dignified Europe's final form. One that tries to be more then nature. They are a continent without a soul.

A single murder over an 18-year history of a service doesn't really mean much in the grand scheme of things. Does every time someone dies in a car crash stop you from driving?

Per mile fatality rate is significantly higher for cars than it is for transit.

>Car crashes are the same thing as murder

>>
>>151272466
Both car crashes and murders are violent deaths. We've just normalized one. And risk of car crash fatality while driving is far higher than risk of being murdered while riding transit per mile (and that's ignoring the fact that transit riders typically travel less miles each day than car drivers).

Also risk of murder while driving is also above 0 (road rage).

No, transit fatality rates include bus crash deaths, they just aren't that common. There's just not that much risk of dying of a crash while riding a bus (busses are big vehicles and travel most miles on low-speed city streets)

You can also die by murder while driving, road rage deaths happen.

In 20th century, we built a bunch of office buildings with steel and concrete that could last a long time. Now many of them are empty, no one wants to rent an office building built in 1986. It's difficult to say what buildings people 45 years from now will demand. We could have more efficient construction techniques, or even clean alternatives to concrete.

Also, wooden buildings can last quite a long time if its maintained properly.
