The only hire that makes sense for Pedo State is Cignetti. If they don't land him, it's an abject disaster. Rhule and Diaz "fit", but Franklin is better than both. I mean maybe you go young guy, but with their resources that doesn't make sense either. If Curt stays at Indiana it will be a disaster for the fighting Sanduskys.

I also think Franklin is gonna land in a power conference somewhere and win big games.

>>
What I think is getting lost on people is that NIL, Transfer Portal, and superconferences has brought an unprecedented level of parity in the sport. So the days of going 11-1 or 10-2 year after year is gone. Runs like Bob Stoops at OU and Urban Meyer at Florida aren't really in the cards anymore, and fans, and more importantly, AD's, need to realize that even if you're Texas, Bama, Georgia, Ohio State, you're going to have a 9-3 season here and there.

it’s a penalty meant to get prevent coaches from simply jumping to a different school to avoid penalties from major NCAA rule violations. A school attempting to hire a coach that’s under a show-cause has to petition the NCAA for approval and the school has to explain to the NCAA why they shouldn’t be penalized for hiring them

About the Arch yips thing in the first few games. How common is that? Is that why some people who are great in practice become crap in actual matches?

I wonder if there were soccer players who had their careers derailed due to this too, but we never detected and just said "he sucks".

Also when someone is cured from this, is it for good?
>>
>>151373524
His buyout is $3 million, which is peanuts for Michigan. Think he's a placeholder to keep things in decent shape until a much better coach is on the market.

2. Miami (13-0)
3. Texas Tech (13-0)
4. Indiana (12-1)
5. Alabama (11-2)
6. Texas A&M (11-2)
7. Georgia (10-2)
8. Ole Miss (10-2)
9. Oregon (10-2)
10. Oklahoma (9-3)
11. Utah (11-2)
12. USF (12-1)

No way ND loses another game this season, and no way a 2 loss ND whose only losses are to Miami and A&M would miss the playoffs. OU would get snubbed here. As much as the committee would probably want to omit Utah, there’s simply no way they could justify snubbing a team who’s 2nd loss would have come in a CCG for a 2 loss team that doesn’t even play in a CCG.

The yips is a real and a not real thing at the same time. It's purely psychological and a lot of athletes go through this. The term comes from a golfer in the 20s and it has been used in American sports for about a century.
Basically, an athlete gets in their own head. It kind of comes on all at once and can happen in most sports. I'd say it's most common in golf. A golfer who's putted a thousands of times shanks his putt. Suddenly he's thinking about what he did wrong. He starts trying to over compensate and question everything he's doing in the moment. He desperately wants to get back to what he was doing naturally before that moment, but he just can't. Eventually most athletes relax and snap out of it. The alternative are they "lose their mojo" permanently and it ends their career. The other rarer instance is Shaq on the free throw line where everyone just tolerated it. You don't really get cured of the yips, you just get over it and get your rhythm back. Can the yips come back? Sure, if it keeps happening on and off people will think you're a head case though and not want you playing for them. Most teams don't have time for someone fucking up. They get benched yips or no yips.
>>
>>151374697
Kickers that get the yips usually never recover
>>
>>151375279
I would say they're not given ample time to recover. The reason why a Steve Sax was allowed to recover from his yips it's because he was good enough at other things that bought him time.
>>
>>151375135
You don't understand how much of a scumbag UFs athletic director is. He might not even be considering firing Billy Napier. He hates Gator fans for noticing that he enabled the women's basketball coach to abuse Gator athletes, and even extended his contract.
>>
>>151375272
>>151375279
Interesting. In the case of Arch it seems that he did recover from this, even if he still has huge anxiety issues and is still over thinking at times.
I wonder if facing this kind of pressure early on will make him tougher later or not.
>>
>>151375120
I think 12 teams is too much, but the BCS system would have been awful in a multitude of realistic outcomes this year. Imagine this:
>tOSU loses to Michigan, beats Indiana in the CCG, Miami and TxTech stay undefeated, and 1 or more teams in the SEC has only 1 loss
Good luck sorting that shit out

There's a general sense that big brands that bring in higher viewership are given the benefit of the doubt when it comes to the post season. Being a popular brand on its own isn't enough as a 6-6 Michigan isn't getting an at-large bid no matter how many eyeballs they attract, but Michigan on the bubble might get a thumb on the scale to get them in. Same for other big brands. Or at least that's the perception of how things work.

Yeah, I actually wrote Alabama in that post before switching to Michigan because of that. Whether or not brand strength matters is up for debate but there's certainly a widespread perception that it does. In Alabama's case, if there are non-record factors considered, it might also be that lots of the country has Alabama fatigue. SMU coming back from the dead is a much more interesting story than if DeBoer fill Saban's shoes.

So now that Indiana is using it's "bottomless resources that rival Texas and Notre Dame" and expect to be a national football powerhouse for years to come, what happens if Curt Cigarettes has a 9-3 or 8-4 season in the coming years? Is that acceptable for a long-term National Championship contender?
>>

>>
Cig could smoke a fucking old lady with a desert eagle on campus between classes and still keep his job. He has like a 60 million dollar buyout and is the savior of the program.
>>
>>151376989

>>151377007
Everyone that says Curt would never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever leave, not even if Alabama offered him $20 million dollars a year
>>
>>151377033
That unironically depends on him. If he wants to chill at Indiana in the coldest seat in college football until he retires in 8-10 years, then yeah, a school would have to offer him more money than any coach is worth to get him to leave. If he actually wants to win national titles in the time he has left as a coach, then Indiana are the ones who'll have to pay him more than any coach is worth
>>
>>151376996
Lol they don’t have a single 5 star on their team
>>
cig's buyout is like $10M lol
>>
Adidas is the biggest wildcard in the coaching shakeup that's about to happen. If they truly did push Franklin out and paid his buyout, they're going to have massive say in who the next coach is. And because they're a faceless corporation, they're going to have no idea how to do it and just make the school go after big names like Jimbo Fisher or Dabo Swinney should he be available
>>
>>151377069
There's something to be said about the ego factor. If Cig stays at Indiana he is by far their best coach ever. He'll be worshiped like a god by their fans, and if he actually wins a national championship with the Hoosiers he is in the discussion for best coach ever. If he goes to Penn State or Florida or wherever he'll never surpass guys like Paterno and Meyer and Spurrier, plus any championships he wins at a new school are just talent babby championships like all the others instead of massively overachieving with a roster full of players bluebloods wouldn't even recruit.

While I doubt Freeman has any intention of leaving ND, converting to Catholicism isn't all that difficult. You attend about a dozen classes with a priest and others who are converting. Do the adult Confirmation ceremony, and that's about it. The process might vary a bit from parish to parish but in general, it's no more difficult than taking an evening photography class at the local community college.

Most papists are either disgruntled and have left the church, never really gave a shit, or are drones on par with your usual charismatic mega church flock. I would have done the same thing had I landed a job at notre dame, it's just optics.

Dunno why people buy into that as an example of commitment, but you shouldn't want to hire Freeman anyway. Dude is a bum who coasts on bucks and good coordinators, he's primate without the jive.

that's more Pac-12 cope. The entire reason we have a 12 team playoff now is because the Pac-12 kept throwing tantrums about getting left out because they kept cannibalizing each other.
at least in the Big 12 Oklahoma would eventually rise to the 1-loss kings of shit mountain

Florida was the only SEC team with fewer than 4 losses that year. They finished #10 at 10-3.
Michigan was the only Big10 team with fewer than 4 losses. They finished #11 at 9-3.
Oklahoma during the season beat #1, #2, #3, and #8. It was a different time.

The one time the SEC cannibalized itself (2023) the committee decided to fuck over the undefeated ACC champion in favor of Bama instead of telling the SEC "tough shit" like they did whenever any other conference cannibalized itself. Expanding the playoff was worth it just to guarantee every conference gets a shot instead of letting the BCS, then the committee, default to SEC #1 and working backwards from that beauty pageant assumption to fill out the rest of the bracket.

Riley was far and away the biggest shock from that coaching carousel. Kelly had been grumbling about how hard it is to win at ND for awhile and their fans were starting to see him the same way as Penn State fans saw Franklin, good enough to beat shitters but always chokes in big games. But absolutely nobody thought Riley would leave for another college job. The NFL was seen as his only possibility to leave OU.

>>
>>151378530
>absolutely nobody thought Riley would leave for another college job. The NFL was seen as his only possibility to leave OU.
there were rumors of him leaving for LSU starting after ou's bye week that season
that's why in his last press conference at OU he had to tell a local reporter that he wasn't going to be coaching at LSU
instead it turned out that he was going to be coaching at USC kek
I personally think he started scrambling for an exit once the conference move was announced earlier that year, and that his agent had baited USC and LSU into a bidding war
>>
>>151378531
That happened during his first season, nobody cared by 2021. He wasn't liked because he was a choker and for being an "offensive genius" he mostly won with good defenses. ND has a better offense now than it ever did during his heyday.
>>
>>151378747
>Riley didn't want to coach in the SEC
>so he/his agent spread rumors about taking the LSU job
???
>>
>>151377716
>wonder how much the agent gets of that lol
15% is pretty standard. The agent makes more than Smart does in a year if he represents all those people and takes 15% off the top. To say nothing of his other clients.
>>
Allar being injured might be a good omen for him, he has less chances to get drafted by the Jets or the Browns next season
>>
>>151378852
Yes, so another school would feel the fomo and pay him more. USC fell for it hook, line, and sinker.
>>
>>151378222
It's the exact same situation in the SEC. A&M has an impressive win at Notre Dame. After that the next best noncon win by a ranked SEC team is what, Oklahoma over Michigan?

In all the years of college football there has never been more than 5 teams who could legit claim to be the national champion.
The "playoffs" should be either 4 or 8 teams and NO ONE gets a bye.
The rules state that no teams get extra byes during the season so why should they during the post season.

when UT, A&M, mizzou, nebraska, and OU were in the big12, they were better or at least equal to the SEC. Consider that East was always Florida or Georgia witch 2 meme years with SoCar, while the West was always Bama or LSU with a few meme years by Auburn.

now that the Big12 was imploded, consider that UH (which was the 3rd best team in the american) is now the 2nd best team, and Tech, which was never a top half of the Big12 is the leader, it's complete garbo.

Few people understand what actually makes the Big 12 a tough conference to play in, least of all Burnt Vegetables who got his ass handed to him in the Big 12. It’s the fact that you never know which teams are the ones that are good before you play them, so you have to prepare like every team is good. Last year ASU was picked to finish dead last in the Big 12 only to win the conference outright, while its highest preseason ranked team was OKST, and they finished winless in the conference. This year you had ASU, Iowa St, KSU, and Tech (who was the lowest btw) ranked to start the season, and of those only Tech is still ranked while the other 3 have basically been wholesale replaced by 3 new ranked Big 12 teams. The Big 12 is essentially NFL-like in its year to year parity. None of this pansy baby ldiaper shit where teams know which opponents they can take a nap the week before against, and which teams you spend a month game game planning to beat in advance.
>>
>>151381534
My take is that he’s correct, but that it’s not a good excuse. He needs to figure out why his offensive line sucks balls so hard and why his team can’t run the ball to save its life.

Venables played at Kstate in 91 and 92. He coached at Kstate from 93 to 98. He coached at Oklahoma from 99 to 2011. He won 7 big 12 championships while coaching at Oklahoma. To say he doesn’t know anything about the big 12 is factually incorrect and something a child who only knows him from his Clemson days would say.

Venerables was a DC that coached for OU teams that were carried by and primarily known for their dominant offenses, get out of here with that shit. I ain’t even saying the guy isn’t a good DC (he clearly is) but without his Stoops, Riley, or Dabo to run the overall program and centralize the teams around the offense, and the dude can’t coach an offense to save his life. He’s a DC LARPing as a head coach.

There are YT guides that explain it better than I can, but basically limit your number of recruiting targets so that you are maxing out possible hours on each one of them. You'll win far more recruiting battles if you are going after 12 recruits at max hours each instead of 24 recruits at half hours each. After you get some commitments reallocate those hours to other targets that aren't being heavily recruited yet. You also do better recruiting from your pipeline areas.

A&M is 5th and Tech is 6th. Tech gets more pressures though and has the better run defense.

it depends
baseball player Daniel Bard famously got the yips as a pitcher and flamed out of the majors, then got over them and came back to be a great pitcher
then had a disastrous outing in the World Baseball Classic and developed them again to the point he had to retire

They have played somebody and lost. Twice. One at home.

Auburn is getting blown out by double digits on Saturday.

LSU struggled to beat Clemson, struggled to put away LA Tech, lost to Old Piss, and needed 5 INT's from Lagway to win AT HOME against a Florida team that LOST to USF.

>losing to 2 of the biggest jobbers in the sport
At least it's a step up from losing to some G5 shitter like Northern Illinois or Marshall

LSU is a fun school. They'll underperform expectations for a few years, randomly go to the natty, then underperform expectations again until randomly returning to the natty

I’m noticing most people are like you in that that they are retarded about their “eye test” disproportionately being about how well a team executed offensively.

Teams with elite defenses who are not executing well offensively are exactly the type of team which will improve as the season goes on. I think LSU and Texas are perfect examples of teams which look bad to midwits but will objectively be among the top 10 best teams in december.

Maybe you say it’s not right to bake in expected improvement over the season. But the only way anyone has notre dame 13 right now is if they are baking in improvements and future wins against cupcakes.
>>
>>151394017
Neither of them will be top ten if they drop another game.

> But the only way anyone has notre dame 13 right now is if they are baking in improvements and future wins against cupcakes.
i've said this 100 times, but Notre Dame's losses and wins are completely consistent with a team in the mid teens. nothing to do with extrapolations or expectations of future performance.

>OU teams that were carried by and primarily known for their dominant offenses
You can look these things up. Every Oklahoma team from 1999 to 2011 had a higher defensive SRS rating than offensive SRS rating except 2008 and 2010 according to sports reference. That trend tends to continue up to 2015. From 2016 onward is the offense dominant Oklahoma era.
