Why is boxing a dying sport? Why is it not mainstream anymore?
>>
too many orgs and the genuinely good boxers are genuinely all prima donnas with chatGPT generated personalities.
>>
Used to be on network TV. PPV killed boxing

There's a false perception that MMA is somehow more realistic and that it's more effective in the street than boxing is, when in reality both are sports and in the street anything goes.
An enlightened person understands that MMA is filler and boxing is a perfect combat sport.
It's all contrived - you can tell because there are refs and rules - so you may as well trim the fat and just box.
The public will come around.
There is also an issue with the lack of a centralized 'authority' - not a governing body but a source for all things boxing.
Boxing being the one true global sport means that it's always going to be somewhat fractured.

All the belts and whole system is confusing to casuals. Plus it has the reputation of being a rigged sport that’s too subjective with judges
>>
Too many exhibition matches that have diluted the prestige of once great names
>>
no rounds, no judges, no points, just fight till someone drops
i've just solved combat sport, you're welcome
>>

You forgot no gloves
>>
>>151402482
because getting beat around the head turns you into a jibbering idiot and nobody needs money that badly anymore
>>
>>151402482
star power. Tyson is left fighting slobs like Jake Paul in "exhibition bouts"
>>
>>151402482
Ali is a fucking toothpick compared to modern HWs. A warm breeze could knock him over. Owes everything to Howard Cosell.
>>
Too many belts, too much corruption, too many cans, too many weight classes, too few easily accessible fights. Cut half the weight classes, 2/3 of the belts, and put a few more fights on TV and it'll explode in popularity again.
>>
>not mainstream
>gervonta vs ryan sold 1.2m PPV
Blame the fighters

Blatantly false and an utterly retarded take that doesn't deserve a serious answer.

Oh yeah well I hate you

Corruption, lack of compelling figures, slavs that don’t turn pro until 30, lack of American heavyweights.

all of what this anon said

It stopped being mainstream sometime in the early-90s. That's mostly because it got sucked into Pay-Per-View.
It was also about then that the stars of boxing became seen as more unsavory. While guys like Michael Jordan, John Elway and Wayne Gretzky were pretty quiet and seen as decent people, Mark McGuire and Sammy Sosa were seen as positive role models before they were seen to be juicers and in Europe the Maradona era largely ended and he was replaced in the headlines by guys like David Beckham, boxing had Mike Tyson, a criminal and wife beater.
As sport went from seen as a way for poor kids to get out of poverty and more a thing for middle class chads to make millions off their perfect coordination and fitness, boxing never got out of the Scum from the Slum perception even though half the champions are the sons of former champions.
Few moms are gonna want their kids getting punched in the heads that much with all we know about TBI
This all factors in to it. The characters were all coked up manlets, the heavyweight champions have mostly been boring slavs. That doesn't help.
But the fact that it was the first sport to really go all pay-per-view, sportscasters in suits, go to the bar and watch it on a giant TV with marked-up drinks is proof that the powers that be in boxing knew where it was headed. The writing has been on the wall for decades, over 30 years ago there was a Simpsons episode that basically said it.
MMA was that final nail of confirmation. Most of the bloodthirsty individualist sports fans that made up the demographic that liked boxing switched over to UFC and other MMA orgs through the 90s and 00s because it had fewer rules, felt organic and impartial while boxing felt like it was more about form and legwork than punching a guy to a pulp.

My old gym trainer told me of how he had once simply gone over to the fridge to get a drink while a PPV Tyson fight was about to begin and by the time he returned to his seat the fight already ended in a KO. He just noped out of watching boxing after that.

Cassius Clay/Mohammed Ali had a unque personality and could draw viewers just with a microphone.
It's like wondering why WWE had never had another Hogan, Rock, or Austin.
>>
>>151402482
MMA cult dethroned it
now people only watch boxing if and only if their nation has a top boxer or god forbid has all the buzz of paul vs tyson
also it's a judged sport

It's not dying, it's just settling
MMA appeared and took its place in the popular consciousness, but it was never as big as boxing and still isn't
When boxing has a big star, it's big

>play optimally
>somehow destroyed the sport.

>>151402482
there are more interesting things in the world happening, boxing has been dopamine mogged by video games, real world events, e celebs etc
>>
All the posts complaining about corruption are silly.
Boxing wasn't any less corrupt when it was infinitely more popular.
Football and F1 in current year are more corrupt than ever and both are more popular than ever.
Don King ran boxing better than any of the people who pushed him out of the sport.

>just go back to the London Prize Ring rules
Dangerously based.

>>151403562
>Ali is a fucking toothpick compared to modern HWs
He's literally the same height/weight as Usyk, they both came up from a smaller weight-class as well.

>>151413151
You could make a much stronger argument that the problem is not enough black fighters.
>>
>>151402482
everybody learned it's fake
