People want to see picrel when they think of amazing basketball highlights. Shaq was popular but that was a different situation. He played with Kobe in LA, he had a big personality, and his playstyle revolved 2000's bruiser ball where he smashed centers of similar height all game. This is nothing like what Wemby will be. It's clear that if he stays healthy he'll be a GOAT level player but I think his prime will be a down era for NBA viewership. Maybe I'm wrong and the casuals are going to love the guy, but I'm predicting it will be an extreme version of the Jokic situation where he's breaking the game year after year but only serious NBA fans really care. Also, the (justified) glaze is going to get really annoying. Hearing the commentators go on and on about "WOW ISN'T THIS KID INCREDIBLE?!?!?" while the average viewer is thinking "yeah no shit he's the size of a fucking traffic pole" is not going to be fun.
