>intentionally walk him a record breaking 4 times
What was the game plan here ?
>>
>>151670187
The concept of intentional walking is breathtakingly retarded and anticompetitive. It’s literally like if an NFL team could be like ok we’ll intentionally allow Brady to complete this pass for 4 yards but he can’t throw it for more than that
>>
>>151670187
Intentionally walking him in the extra innings was the right thing to do though
>>
AHAHAHAHA
>>
>>151670187
shameful display. his final statline was 9 for 9 with 5 intentional walks
>>
>>151670233
Thanks canada another rule change incoming becuase of your faggotry
>>
>>151670187
>first time you intentionally walk a batter he goes to first
>next time he goes to second
>every time after that if you intentionally walk that batter his team gets a free run
Fixed it
>>
>>151670210
That's called Prevent Defense you literal retard
>>
>>151670337
No, in prevent defense the offense can still gain as many yards as they can before they’re stopped. It doesn’t put an unavoidable mandatory cap on their performance like intentional walking
>>
>>151670216
Not if you took out your best hitters and had no intention of ever scoring
It's ok, if Bieber gets lit up today you can have Varland pitch 5-6 innings, it's not like that manager can do anything else or fucking manage
>>
>>151670233
4 for 4 (5 OB's)
Try again, walks literally don't matter, nor count
>>
>>151670296
No, 3rd time is a pachinko machine that randomly picks a base including home, and a reverse bases do not pass go -1 runs
>>
>>151670392
>John liked that
>>
>>151670296
Retard take, you can't prove an intentional walk if the guy just pitches outside the strike zone
>>
>>151670614
A batter is actually allowed to swing at pitches outside the strike zone, little known fact there
Blatantly tossing a ball like 3 feet outside the zone on purpose also shouldn’t be allowed
>>
>>151670730
Obviously you've never played, sometimes even a great pitcher makes a mistake
>>
>>151670730
Try cricket. You are genuinely not allowed to do it in cricket. Indians play in it all the time, but only nationally. If you hate canada jeets, you can also watch crickets and hate jeets right from the shit-filled tap.
>>
>>151670810
You can throw a wide ball in cricket but the other team gets a run
>>
Qrd for someone who knows nothing about baseball aside from basic concepts?
>>
>>151671011
>Nip man good at hit ball
>Hit ball good make many point
>Opponent don't want nip man to hit ball
>Opponent do "foul" to force nip man to advance without hit ball
>>
>>151670187
As a non-fan of the sport - hasn't anyone ever complained about this being allowed in the game? Has the rules always allowed this?

It's as if a boxer's not penalised for refusing to engage the other boxer for an entire round
>>
>>151671208
Thats so gay
>>
>>151671011
Basically if the pitcher "misses" their pitch 4 times, the batter gets to go to first base. If there already was someone on first, they go to second and if there was someone on first and second they go to second and third, but if for example there was one on second but no first, the runner on second remain on second. It's not a hit. You just take first base. They don't get to run on the ball as if you hit it. Let's say there's a runner on third base and you hit it. That runner would score. Now let's say there's a runner on third and you draw a walk. That runner would remain on third. Get it? So a walk is never as good as a hit as it doesn't advance the runners the same.
Now for the game. Context: The best player in the world is playing in the final. He's already hit 2 home runs (you get to pass all four bases and all runners currently on get to go home and score too) and 2 doubles (2nd base). The game is tied 5-5. The aforementioned player was the one who tied it. The game remains tied at full time. The over time is basically the team who has the most points by the end of an inning wins. One normal game is 9 innings. The over time ends up going for essentially a full extra game. 18 innings. During that over time, the opposing manager decided they would just "intentionally walk" the best player. That is when without throwing to the opposing player you just say "I'm not pitching to you. I'm throwing 4 virtual missed balls. Go take first base.". Basically, they deemed it better to just give him first base instead of risking throwing to him and possibly losing the game if he hits the ball (which he did 4 out of 4 times prior that game). So they did that 5 times. They didn't let him even try to hit the ball for essentially a full game. 5 walks. This is almost never worth it as normally the best players get a hit 30% of the time. They were just that scared of him that game. His team ended up winning eventually due to another guy hitting a home run.

You're letting a man on base for free, that's already its own penalty
>>
>>151670351
an intentional walk puts a runner on base, it is a gift to the offensive team.
Ohtani was 4 for 4 when they started walking him. You would be insane NOT to intentional walk, when the score is tied in extra innings one slap ends it all.
And any coach who did otherwise has no future.

are you stupid? Jays lost because they didnt walk him enough. Are you actually a retard?
>>
>walk ohtani
>dodgers stop scoring for 11 innings
the rest of the dodger lineup is dogshit. mookie is washed and freddie is borderline washed. everyone else is a non threat
>>
>>151672944
They should of walked freeman
>>
>>151671624
I cannot fathom the mind of a person who unironically thinks all of this shit is digestible by a person who doesn't know jack shit about baseball.

You literally lost time after 4 words.
>>
I mean he had 2 HRs and 3 RBIs before they intentionally walked him the rest of the game
>>
>>151671011
In baseball, the pitcher doesn't actually HAVE to throw balls the batter can hit. For a long ass time they had to do a mockery where the pitcher and catcher threw the ball back and forth until they 'missed' 4 times and walked the batter to first. They finally did away with that charade a few years ago, so they can just say "we're walking this batter," and get on to the next hitter.

Why do they not walk power hitters literally every time? Mostly social pressure. No rule says they can't.
>>
>>151672332
It should still be the batting team’s choice. If they’re confident Ohtani can hit a piss rocket the other team shouldn’t be able to stop them.
>>
>>151673398
>Why do they not walk power hitters literally every time?
Because even the best ones get out roughly 2/3 of their time at the plate.
>>
>>151677469
I'm sure that comforts the Brewers.
