This has been a pretty low scoring, low free throw gane in general. Most balanced game, the entire first two weeks so far?
Makes me wonder how the warriors would do against a much faster paced team (and also wonder whether thats why they lost to Portland, because theyre faster paced)

Heres the tricky thing. I unironically think Currgoat is better than Giannis at creating space and opportunities for his teammates.
But I think Giannis despite his flaws (no midrange, poor free throw shooter) Is equal to curry right now in terms of impact on team because of his downhill pressure. Of all the stars ive watched right now, he and curry provide the most impact to their teammates in terms of making them better than they are. Jokic has had two teammates that have dropped 40 and 50 in two different games. One is a catch and shooter/lob threat, and the other is a mostly iso kobe wannabe. I have zero idea why Jokic gets so much credit for these guys playing well offensively. Maybe because the rest of his teammates are kinda just...there. Standing around? Maybe if youre delusional enough you can argue that Jimmy Butlers 20 a game is equivalent to having Aaron Gordan and Jamal Murray?

Back to Currgoat and Gianngoat. The biggest flaw with curry is that, when his teammates arent hitting, his impact falls off hard. It doesnt even matter whether hes being efficient, he was efficient and getting downhill in that portland game. And had 35 in like 27 minutes, I just think something about being able to go 70% from the field on mostly rim shots is difficult to match. I wonder if its a volume thing. You can simply take more shots at the rim rather than 3s, because 3s end the possession so fast if you miss, whereas 2s have a chance for a put back or offensive rebound or foul, or and one, theres fundamentally more opportunities for points in the range of 2 printers near the rim.

These have been my thougths trying to think about how Giannis made that Cleveland game so close, and yet how we got blown out by 30 with Curry going crazy 55% from the field and 50% from 3 against Portland

his shooting numbers from high school and college were good (33-35%) but not 40% good, its unlikely that hes actually developed that much over the summer so itll probably regress. And his rim finishing was much worse at college than it has been in the nba so far. He is taking easier shots because he isnt the primary guy anymore, but leaps this big are unbelievable if they stick (60% rim finisher in college but shooting 78% so far in nba)

an someone explain the hype over Wemby to me? I mean, I’m not blind — I’ve seen him in action — but I still don’t understand why the vast majority seem to believe he’s going to “end the debate” between Jordan and LeBron. Some people are already saying he’s better than Jordan ever was, and I just don’t see it.

All I see is a very tall player who, at best, will end up like Ralph Sampson. It’s rare to see such a tall, talented player, but I think his career will be cut short. He’s already prone to injuries at a very young age, yet people are acting as if he’s going to play as long as Jordan did.

Furthermore, fans are acting like his basketball IQ is already on Jokic’s level or that his handles surpass Kyrie’s. Some are even saying he’s going to destroy all of Wilt’s stats.

Now, don’t get me wrong — I see the talent. I’m not blind. And he’s likely going to break some insane record in the blocking department. But it’s just the beginning of the season, and the media are already claiming he’s going to take Jordan’s throne?

That's not how federal indictments work.

The only people I've seen get out federal indictments are people who tried to fuck over Donald Trump and Donald Trump himself.
You can't just tell the judge, "sorry your honor, I didn't know "
And you can't rich or celebrity your way out of them either.
Federal prosecutors have like a 99 percent conviction rate.
You could be a billionaire like SBF, or a celebrity like P Diddy, it don't matter, your ass is grass.
You will be going to prison if the FBI comes after you.

Sounds like an Ai education.
I follow the DOJ like people in this thread follow the NBA.
The pressure and threats those niggas press on you is so fucking intense, pleading guilty is often your best option.
They. ALWAYS gave indisputable evidence of your crime.
After they show you the evidence, they then tell you they will bury you under the prison if you dare try to defend yourself.
If they say in the indictment that Billups is using x-ray glasses and that he's got texts talking about rigging, they have the fucking evidence.
Just the other day, I saw them talking about how they were looking for the suspect for a certain crime and one of the identifiers was his shoes. They were like "only 25,000 pairs of these nikes were sold in the world "
And the nikes were bargain clearance rack nikes
These guys go so deep they know how many other people in the world are wearing your cheap ass nikes bro.
They collect amazing evidence.
This is why people plead.
Because they are caught dead to rights.

Dude, 4 years in prison sucks.
My point Iis, if the FBI shows up with an indictment you're going to prison. Period.
Now, for you, spending 4 years in prison may be a great way of spending time in this short amount of time we allotted on this earth, but for everyone else in the world, that sucks.
Is 4 years better than 20 years? Sure.
But is 4 years in prison better than 0 years. I would say no.
And if the FBI shows up , it's super rare to get a 0 time in prison outcome.
Again, my point is very simple.
FBI indicts = time in prison.
Billups is going to prison.

>undisputed best player in the league by season's end. (he might already be that).
Again, your French insult is cute, but where’s the argument? Where’s your receipt? Saying someone is dumb for not “seeing” or “believing” in something isn’t a logical argument, is it? For instance, you’re saying that he could be the “undisputed best player in the league by season’s end (he might already be that).” Again, where’s the proof?

So far, you have SGA, Maxey, Giannis, Lauri, Brunson, Mitchell, and Reaves — all of whom have more points than Wemby. Granted, many of these guys aren’t exceptional freaks of nature, but stats don’t lie.

Then, when you look at assists, Wemby isn’t even in the top 40. As for rebounds, you have Jokic at #1 with an average of 15.3, followed by Sabonis at 14.7, Giannis at 14.0, and then Wemby at 13.8. Actually, Wemby is ranked #2 for defensive rebounds.

And of course, there are blocks — that’s where Wemby truly shines, being the clear #1 with an average of 4.8. But to go from having dominant block stats (which you’d expect from a player his size) to claiming he’s going to be better than Jordan? I don’t see it. And asking me to “believe” or “see” isn’t an argument. Neither are personal insults.

Again, you’re making claims about him without providing any evidence — exactly like the media hype machine is doing right now. Wemby missed 44% of the games during the 2024–2025 NBA regular season. You’re expecting a guy that tall to be physically durable for the next decade, but history shows that, at best, talented and very tall players end up like Ralph Sampson.

Better shooter than who, exactly? Again, look at the stats — Wemby ranks 8th in points and isn’t even in the top 40 for assists.

I don't give a fuck about the box score.
I've watched him play
The box score does not show how many shots he's altered and how many bad shots he forces the other team to take by his pure presence on the court.
This is so critical.
Teams get disheartened playing against him.
Watch the game.
You can see so much indecision on the opposing team about what they should do or where they can get a shot off.
He closes from the hoop to the three point line like no defender I've ever seen.
Guys fucking panic when he closes. They either shoot a horrible arching shot to avoid it getting blocked or they make a panic pass. Oh yeah, it also gets swatted too.
The dude is swatting three point shots on attempts that begin while he's in the paint. Like holy fuck.
Then in offense. Holy shit.
He can score whenever he want6, with one, two steps, dunk.
The alley oop to him is unguardable.
Man, I could go on and on about how great he is and how superior he is to every player.

>I don't give a fuck about the box score.
Saying “I don’t give a fuck about the box score” is just a longer way of saying “muh feelings.” It’s subjective, isn’t it?

If you can’t quantify the impact you’re talking about — like with defensive field goal percentage, rim deterrence, or on/off splits — then it’s just vibes.
“Presence” and “altered shots” are real things, but if they actually affect outcomes, they show up in the data. Otherwise, you’re just describing how you feel watching him.

Who has the most triple-doubles right now? Jokic.
Who leads in blocks? Wemby.
Most defensive rebounds? Jokic.
Most points? Maxey.
Most assists? Jokic again.
Most steals? Tre Jones.
Most three-pointers? Stephen Curry.

How do we know all this? Stats.

Saying you don’t give a fuck about stats is like saying you don’t care about reality.
Numbers don’t lie but feelings make the lies sound prettier.

Give me a counterargument, then. How is he supposed to surpass Jordan? Why is he the best player this season?

Give me stats...ChatGPT, Grok, DeepSeek... I get my numbers from ESPN and StatMuse, and I also watch the games.

All I see is a very tall player with good handles and elite rim protection. That’s pretty much it. He moves surprisingly well for his size, but he’s a disaster waiting to happen when it comes to health. His court IQ isn’t anything special.

But the hype machine? Off the charts. The way people talk about him, you’d swear he’s already an MVP, immune to injuries for life, and apparently on track to dethrone Jordan.. some even say he already has.

I don’t buy it. I don’t see it. It all just sounds like excessive hype to me.

He was my #2 prospect behind Flagg, and I though VJ just from a 2-way impact kind of guard, was very very special on tape. I watched a lot of Baylor games last year, and VJ pulled out a few plays a game that definitely solidified to me that he was gonna be a star. I still had Flagg as my #1 prospect though,, and I’m not gonna change it yet because he is a year younger than the rest of the class. VJ shot 40% from 3 the last 20 games at Baylor (only 26% the 1st 10 games). If you WATCH THE GAMES, not skimming stat sheets, you might know that. Again, his burst, athleticism and finishing ability was on full display in college, why wouldn’t it get better with more spacing in the NBA??

I saw this coming. I was flagging VJ as the possible #2 pick back in February. I was on this train early. I still have all my notes from prospects I watched last year, probably about 75 of them.

This one's actually debatable because it was arguably more of a tap/redirection than a dribble. You see this a lot on deflections/steals where the first "dribble" doesn't count if the player never had full control of the ball.

>>151687494
>because thats not how shot translation from ncaa to the nba works
You haven’t been watching basketball long, huh? Even in the NBA, shooters fluctuate. A lot of what is being diagnosed in college, is whether the shot mechanics are good, and whether the shot has improved throughout their freshman season. VJ has a beautiful jump shot, and his percentage improved throughout the season. And it’s translating to the NBA, go figure.

But yeah, like I said before I believe in Flagg. Maybe it’s just the fit. He SHOULD be a freshman in college right now. I think he’ll figure it out.

Analytics and stats are overrated. Analysis is underrated. There are always reasons why things are happening. Scheme, communication (both on & off the floor), and the mental aspects of the game. Now, don’t get me wrong. Stats tell a story, but it’s not even close to the truth. It’s just data. Data is helpful, and obviously lead to “evolution” in the game, in terms of spacing etc. But how has that worked out for Darryl Morey?? The man has never created a roster that made it to the finals, and yet is adorned a genius. It’s a soulless way of looking at basketball, and objectively detrimental to actually learning hoops

>A lot of what is being diagnosed in college, is whether the shot mechanics are good, and whether the shot has improved throughout their freshman season.
That's not really true. Mechanics are important, yes, but the overall percentages are generally what people primarily look at when assessing a prospect's shooting. If there's a trend where a player improves over the season, it's something to consider, but sample sizes in college are so small that you can't put too much weight into that. It can always just be a hot-streak/cold-streak situation with no actual meaningful improvement, which is why the overall sample is more telling.

VJ has never really been a knockdown shooter at any level. He is about average at best. I would be very surprised if he ended the season at above 38%. He's also never been an effective on-ball creator or playmaker. I haven't watched all of his games, but I suspect he's benefiting from some outlier positive stat variance with his percentages and assist numbers.
>>
>>151687547
even with a nice jumpshot, none of his shooting priors suggest he’s an elite shooter right now, not 3pt%, not ft%, and not 3pt volume. 80 games on his volume is a large enough sample to overcome such a large fluctuation
>>
>>151687651
afaik 3pt volume is the most predictive factor
>>
>>151687651
I feel like you’re moving the goalposts. I never said VJ was gonna average 40% from 3 this season. The question coming into the draft was whether his shot would translate to the NBA. His form is pretty. It was easy to see in college. I do think he has the ability to be in that 37-40% for his career though, which is super respectable and more advanced than Anthony Edwards shooting was when he was drafted #1 (I think Ant averaged like 27% at Georgia from three). VJ also shot 38.5% from 3 for his Bahamas FIBA games. Yet he was drafted after people analyzed his shot, and got the right people to work with him. Now he’s a 40% shooter from 3. Sometimes it’s about having great development coaching, and thinking a shot can be tweaked. Tons of guys get drafted each year who shot 20-29% from three, yet are expected to develop into much better shooters.
>>
>>151687735
VJ literally averaged 38.5% from 3 for the Bahamas, and 40% his last 20 games from college. On top of that, his jump shot is pretty. are you just trolling?
>>
>>151687749
>The question coming into the draft was whether his shot would translate to the NBA
That wasn't really the question with him. Everyone assumed he would be a decent to above average shooter. The questions were more around his rim-finishing and on-ball creation upside.
>Now he’s a 40% shooter from 3
It's been 4 games. Way too early to stamp him with that label. Surely you don't think Cedric Coward is a 65% 3P shooter, or that Cooper Flagg is a 27% 3P shooter.
>>
>>151687768
the bahamas sample of 13 shots? you seem to not realise how rare it is for somebody to average 40% in the nba on vj’s volume, let alone as a rookie. it’s much more rare than getting hot for half a season at college, i promise you that

>The questions were more around his rim-finishing and on-ball creation upside.

I also addressed that earlier. Why wouldn’t people think it would improve in the NBA? There’s much more spacing. Not only that, but even if VJ didn’t turn out to be the most elite finisher percentage wise, his rim pressure alone is tremendously valuable.
>>
>>151687851
1) They played entirely different roles and styles. Ant was running the offense and taking much more difficult pull-up 3's. VJ played mostly off ball, taking shots off the catch and attacking closeouts.

I mean it's possible it improves but it's not a guarantee. That's why it's a question. And generally playmaking and creation ability is not one of those things that drastically improves after being drafted, especially for guards. It's something you either have or you don't. There may be exceptions of course but as a rule that's how it is.

Why is this goober discrediting his championship run? Let me guess, paid by the Inceltics media? This cope would make sense if the Lakers and Heat didnt go on deep playoff runs the years after. The Heat made the finals two years afterwards. What he should be calling out is the short offseason, which led the Suns and Bucks to make the NBA finals when neither have gone on to make it past the 2nd round since. Both have had multiple first round exits. The Lakers, Heat, Inceltics and Nuggets all went back to the conference finals in 2023 after 2020. Then again, if they didnt belong, why didnt the "better" teams just beat them?
>>
>>151687957
By virtue of rim pressure, it creates opportunities for other shooters. If he’s a great cutter and has 99th percentile athleticism, why wouldn’t you play him off ball mostly, especially when you have Maxey. Not all wings are shot creators right away, and VJ kind of is (?). He’s showcasing 3-level scoring ability and great instincts with the ball in his hands in the halfcourt. He always kind of has showed this, but it was difficult at Baylor given their system. But now, the vision is clear. Nick Nurse is unlocking VJ. Pushing the pace and hunting mismatches. I mean, he came into the draft already more polished than the Thompson Twins (albeit shorter). I don’t get people being scared off by how “raw” his game was.
>>
>>151687994
>Austin Reeves averaged like 29% from 3 his last two college seasons
Reaves also had a season shooting 42% from 3, which again just points to the problem with putting too much stock into small sample sizes. College seasons are too short to get an accurate picture of someone's 3P%. You take is an indicator and look at it within the context of their role, the types of shots they're taking, and their mechanics. But Reeves was always an elite FT% which is a key indicator that a player has a high potential as a 3P shooter.

>This is very much a common progression, I can name examples all day if you’d like

I guarantee you didn't watch Mobley or Randle play in college. You're looking up stats and making up narratives. Nobody was saying "yeah he has decent shooting feel" about Evan Mobley. Anyway, this argument is boring and pointless. VJ has proven he's a decent shooter. You seem to think he's an elite shooter. I need to see a much larger sample size before I believe that.

>The fact is that you stated in this discussion he is 5’10 & that is objectively wrong.
I'm not objectively wrong because, objectively, colleges inflate heights all the time. Every draft we see numerous examples. Ace Bailey was listed at 6'10" by Rutgers, but measured at 6'7"5 at the combine. One example of many. I trust my eyes more than listed heights, and my eyes tell me Rob Wright is very short.

In reality it all depends on the team record and direct matchups cause the stats will be there for him

If the bucks finish with a good record and giannis beat SGA and Jokic in their games, he'll have a good shot desu

Lmao why u mad pajeet? Why u projecting?? Yes, I watched Evan Mobley almost every game at USC. I knew about Mobley since he was with the Compton Magic in AAU. I’m from Southern California so he was a prominent name in High School. He definitely had guard skills and shooting ability from a young age. He would pull up at USC from 15-20 feet and hit pretty consistently, or would hit a post fadeaway. All indications of a 7 foot player that can stretch his game.

>You seem to think he's an elite shooter. I need to see a much larger sample size before I believe that.
Again, you’re projecting. I think he will be a very good shooter (38-40%) from three over his career, but the reason why that matters is because he’s even more elite at applying rim pressure. Plus VJ’s first step & burst is so quick, if you close out too tight, and there’s no help, it’s over.

Guys... let's cut Cooper Flagg some slack here. The only 18-year-olds to ever be good out the gate were LeBron and to some extent Dwight. And even with LeBron, he put up numbers but his percentages were pretty trash and he was losing every game. Coop doesn't have that kind of usage because his team is actually trying to win.
>>
>>151691531
Paolo and Franz don't work together. The FO needs to pick a side and build around him competently.

You guys do know that spiritually Cooper Flagg is the best rookie so far right? It's not his fault he has a smaller role on a contender unlike the other rookies on bum ass lottery teams.
