>What if a good pitcher also practiced his batting
How did no one try this before him?

He's top 20 in the league

Because it's a dumb thing to do in general. If you want to make it to the pros then you do what you can to make it and practicing 2 different positions just makes it less likely you'll be good at both. Ohtani just fluked out in that regard.

i'm saying it's a dumb thing to do if you are an up-and-coming player. Making it to the pros is very hard, so why would you risk taking time away from one position and try to get good at 2? You are competing against other players for roster spots who are only focusing on one position so you are only making it harder for yourself if you are practicing 2 positions. As I said, it's better if you can be good at 2 but nobody is stupid enough to risk that when they are growing up. Ohtani just got lucky in that it worked out for him.

Imagine if a football quarterback decided to spend half his practice time being a defensive back as well. He would be taking time away from his quarterback practice and thus less likely to be a top tier player at quarterback. I know people in high school football sometimes play 2 positions, but they don't let you do that in college.

Doyers really gave him the ball to open game 7. Those niggers really want to force the anime hero narrative instead of letting Glasnow or anyone else pitch. Let's see how that turns out for them.

It stopped being a thing long before the DH rule went into effect, right around the same time that pitchers were either relievers or starters. Even in the 1930s, there were only a handful of pitchers who didn't bat 9th.
