He's right, Cruyff and Di Stefano never won a World Cup either, and both are heralded as at least top five ever. Some even claim Cruyff is the best. Meanwhile, Maradona, despite winning the World Cup, never won the European Cup/Champions League. And Pele never even played in Europe. Neither Maradona or Pele won the Copa America either. On the other hand, there are players that hit the lottery in terms of birth place, and have been on teams that won the World Cup, Euro, and CL despite not really contributing that much (see: Torres).
