Training, nutrition, techniques, tactics, etc. have all been made widely available and commercialised so the quality of aspiring players has equalised considerably to the point where there's less room for standout individuals to come out. Also, you basically have to fit into a strict system at higher levels so you get benched if you try to be a fancy dan. A player like Ronaldinho either wouldn't have gotten out of Brasil these days, or he would have been a much different player.
