I don't care for the new group stage format it is extremly boring
>>152145924Same. Atleast each group in the old format had it's own little story, now it's all slop.
>>152145924>>152145958Completely agree
I don't watch CL until the final. The format is so gay
I didn't bother watching the previous group stage format but at least you could see what teams would need to do as it progressed. The thing is that this current format is designed to be shit so UEFA can go "oh we'll turn it into the Super League then :)"
>>152145924it is made so all the big teams can qualify
>>152145924it was alright the first time around, got old quick tho. Doesn't really matter what you do with the format now, base problem, there's too many teams and too little jeapordy - watching a cashtill jingling is Not That Interesting.
>>152146271The old format with groupstage was much better. But globohomo didn't like it when underperforming "big clubs" were eliminated early.
>>152145924I like it, finishing top 8 is very important, main issue is the appealing match ups feeling like friendlies, no reason for arsenal and bayern to go at eachothers throats tomorrow and both (especially arsenal seeing as the bundeshitter is gusrenteed for bayern) should try to get out of the match with no injuries
>>152145924yes
>>152146354fucking globohomoI hate them
Both the old and new formats are terribly boring. This should be like the WC. Groups with only 1 match between each teams and then straight to knockout stage.>but muh home and away gamespots decide who plays more home games. e.g pot 1 teams get two home games and one awayEvery game would matter something
>>152149252Old format was perfect. The matches between big clubs in the groups were always important and the mismatches were always either comfy or incredible upsets. In this format we get more "exciting" matchups like Chelsea v Barcelona and it just doesn't really matter. The issues with the european super league and this new UCL format are the same; They devalue and oversaturate the special continental matchups they're trying to maximise profit from
>>152149312>Old format was perfectnah, if you have Kairat v. Barcelona or whatever, Kairat just got fucked 0-7 in their home tie against Barcelona and are def. out, now have to go to Camp Nou 2 weeks later - its not much fun, for anyone. 6 or 8 team groups, probably better 6 - cba with arithmetic of it rn - with random Home or Away draw would be better. That part of the new format IS better.
>>152145924You could always mail in games at the end of the groups now you can mail In games earlier and more often so it's good for bigger clubs to stay fresh and rotate. It was easier psychologically to follow group stages there was a sort of natural ordering that jived with your mental, but now the swiss order is like all other Germanic autism, completely fucking retarded and unnatural
>>152149110cool it with the antisemitic remarks.
>>152145924The old format wasn't ideal, but it ended up sucking for two main reasons: the massive financial gap between clubs - for which the CL has become a major reason and driver. And the loss of national quotas, because that one made a flow from smaller countries to big leagues too easy. The finance one is the biggest issueAs such, the group stage got pretty boring indeed. But the new format isn't better in any meaningful way. The financial imbalance will be even greater in the long term. It hides the same power gap behind more chaos, one large table where things obviously move a lot more around at first. But the only real effect is that big clubs have an easier time surviving this phase. It's empty calories, not really important. We'll end up with mostly the same eight clubs on the top spots. And it bloats the schedule even more. It's a bigger show, which is typical for UEFA (and FIFA) these days. But that's about it. The sportive value is low since you play different opponents and not even twice. Playing Bodö or Galatasaray at home is different from playing against them on the roadHaving the old format would be better if UEFA hadn't willingly fostered this financial imbalance
>>152145924Same there isn't much value to the games since a loss doesn't have as much of a consequence as it used to and half the table qualifies meaning if you're team is in a decent spot after the first 4 games then there's really no reason to keep up with the table afterwards. Having knockout stages giants matchups each week is lame too and lost its novelty after the first season. There's also under performers falling under the radar too I didn't even know Ajax were last until recently
>>152145924How do I become less of a contrarian?
>>152145924Yeah it does seem like there's no reason to watch until the R16 starts anymore. There's more big games yes but what's the point when they hardly matter.
>>152151143You still get this in the current format. Some bumfuck 0 points team like Ajax isn't playing for anything anymore already
i prefer it because we get a league table which shows which team is technically the best, and then you get the knock-out tournament which shows which team is most clutch irrespective of how good they are at football from a technical perspective.you can then choose which is your preferred method of determining who is the best team in Europe for that season.
>>152145924I liked it when they had actual groups because you had a temporary mini-rivalry with every team in your group
>>152145958Just like your grammar.
>>152145924it's made so uefalona never get relegated to europa league again
>>152146207Ajax and benfica wont
>>152160779I remember when Bayern had a group with Barca and Inter and Barca got sent to Europa League lolLast season only Big Team to not reach R16 was City bcuz they lost against Real in playoffs
The old one was irrelevant too. I have no idea why people watch the group stage.
I can’t get myself to watch these group games they feel like empty preseason friendlies. Doesn’t feel like the intensity of the old champions league
>>152167910he said big teams
>>152151143That's just an argument for kicking non-European nations out of UEFA.
>#15 wins the first editionDead on arrival.
