BROS, the NATIONAL DOG SHOW is on NBC at 1 ET today. If you're sick of watching athletes who don't have that DAWG in them, you need to watch these great athletes.(it's airing on tape delay, please don't spoil it if you already know who won.)
inb4 some BOZO tries to claim that dog shows aren't a sport.FACT: dog shows are sports. Source: The American Kennel Club
FACT: dog shows have been covered by sports magazines like Sports Illustrated
I'm the guy who owns Prediction Pup aka Pomstradamus The Pomnosticator. I don't compete in dog shows and Prediction Pup will not be competing in any (she's spayed) but I like going to dog shows and know a number of breeders who show.
Here's a pom owning the show ring
I'll be back in a bong and a bing to shitpost with you lads
>>152169455got that dog in em
>Redbone CoomhoundIs that a Doja Cat song?
/span/
>>152169824It's a coonhound, not a coomhound. I don't even want to know what a coomhound would be bred to do.
doggy bitchitini
You have to have a pretty high iq to own a border collie
The show started 20 minutes ago and they're already through the hound and herding groups. Now they're showing a puff piece about a borzoi
One fun thing about dog shows is that everyone is constantly using the word bitch. My bitch, breeding bitch, bitch in season, bitches, bitches. Prim and proper looking ladies, dudes, kids. Everyone is talking about bitches. When you watch a dog show on TV they're told to avoid the word.
Did anyone see that kid named Hadrian? His dad is probably a chud.
Clumber Spaniels always look thicc as hell. I've never petted one so I have no idea if they're actually big boned under the fur.
Whew, that poodle is rowdy
When the bichon so supreme that you let out a scream
They're showing the TOY GROUP right now. That's my fav because it has pomeranians, brussels griffons, papillons, and toy poodles.
I've heard that dog shows are massively, comically rigged. Is this true? Most of the rigging, I think, relates to judges deciding how much a dog is representative of its breed, which is obviously completely subjective. It's also Crufts which is the rigged one, so maybe American dog shows are less rigged. But do any of you know about dog-show rigging?
Best In Show was a very funny movie
best dog movie ever
>>152187176Dog show judging is extremely subjective at the higher levels. All breeds have defined standards for how the dogs should look (link below to get an idea of the standard for mastiff). In dog conformation shows, the winning dog should be the one that gets closest to its ideal breed standard. At smaller dog shows, it's a lot easier to tell which dogs get close to the breed standard. At a big, televised show like The National Dog Show, Westminster Kennel Club, or Crufts almost all the dogs are going to be very close to their breed standard. Just judging the best dog in each breed (this part isn't usually televised, you don't usually see the dogs on TV until after they've won best in breed) is going to end up being fairly subjective, and best in group and show, much more so. https://www.mastiffclubofamerica.com/illustrated-standardComplaints about judging are as old as dog shows themselves. I downloaded a very old book about breeding and showing small dogs and even back then there was still plenty of complaining about judging and judges being biased, corrupt, or not knowing what they were doing.
>>152169856>coonhoundAren't they basically muttified bloodhounds? Like lurchers being muttified greyhounds.
>>152187483I'm not sure what the various coonhound breed origins are. Unlike lurchers, there are actual recognized bloodlines, breed standards, the dogs can be registered with the American Kennel Club.
