For me, it's Steve Bruce's novel.

>Written in 1999, Striker is generally regarded as the best of Steve Bruce’s novels, and certainly the most readily available. Harper Lee has famously only published one novel in her lifetime. Well, she can eat shit because Steve Bruce has published three.
>Even the book’s front cover could itself be a topic for long, detailed discussion. On it, we see our eponymous striker himself, Pat Duffy, face down and bleeding on a drastically awful Photoshop representation of a football pitch, itself so poorly scaled as to render him roughly 40 feet tall. That’s not to say he looks “a bit big”. He is literally scaled 30-40 feet tall.
The whole review is like that. It's brilliant.

>As newly-appointed manager and coach of Leddersford Town, Steve Barnes has been charged with the task of leading the club to the Premier League. When his promising young striker is found murdered in the locker room Steve becomes prime suspect. He sets out to prove his innocence.

Man i wonder who inspired the creation of Steve Barnes

>Chopped into “chapters” that barely fill a page, in a font size usually associated with books for the partially sighted, Lovejoy on Football is part autobiography, part witless musing, and one more triumph for the crass stupidity rapidly replacing culture in this country. Hopelessly banal and nauseatingly self-assured, smirkingly unfunny, it’s a £300 T-shirt, a piss-you-off ringtone, a YouTube clip of someone drinking their mate’s vomit. Its smugness is a corollary of its vacuity. I hope it makes you sick.
