I hadn’t been watching his match, but I watched some of the last frame and I think he’s being tortured by Scott Donaldson. It’s Jak Jones reaching the World Championship final all over again. And unfortunately, Mark Allen does seem to wilt sometimes and turn to shit, and those two events have combined to give us a humiliating zesty slaughter of based GOAT Mark.

Scott Donaldson's weird combover hairline is starting to bother me. He either needs to do the chad embrace and just be out and proud as a balding 30 year old man, or he should just fucking shave it all of like Luca Brecel or Anthony McGill (or dare I say, Graeme Dott). And if he's too much of a little bitch to do either of those options he needs to get a hairpiece like Jimmy White.

Allel gets buffed if his match runs past midnight, this is well documented.

I was researching and trying to find out why whenever I play on a snooker table myself, the balls are always quite obviously smaller than the ones on TV. It turns out you can buy smaller snooker balls if you want to also be able to play on pool tables. But, more excitingly, did you know that Aramith-brand pool balls are so much more expensive partly because the pattern goes all the way through the ball? Absolute madness. Look at this lunacy.

I like him because he is the most naturally likable player on the tour. But I’m worried that if we see too much of him, we might see times where he’s not being the hilarious entertainer and that could hurt his reputation as a banter machine. They had some feature a couple of days ago where they asked him a bunch of questions, and when they asked him to give advice to younger players, he went completely solemn and said, “Never get a manager. Never let anyone get their hands on your money except you.” That felt so out of character that I was a bit taken aback, even though it’s genuinely good advice.

When iPhones started having that bell noise for notifications, I thought it was revolutionary because it's not a ringing sound so it could just blend in with the background (if people still made their own ringtones, I considered recording myself coughing and using that so that my phone could go off and I'd never get in trouble). Unfortunately, so many people have iPhones that the noise has become ubiquitous and it's more annoying that any ringtone ever was.

I am very proud of myself for writing about that noise without saying "Ding" or "Bing" at any point.

Nice. Maybe they'll change the home nations events to Bo9 from the outset next (they won't)
>>
I saw a feature two or three days ago where they asked various snooker players a set of fun questions. One was, “What one rule would you change in snooker if you could?” Most players mentioned the miss rule; Luca Brecel asked for a shot clock. I have decided that if I could change one rule in snooker, I would change the rule that the cushion at the bottom of the TV screen is called the “top cushion”. It’s not at the top. If it was, like if you’re looking at it from the baulk end, then the left cushion would be the right cushion and vice versa. Bouncing off the left cushion, on the left, onto the top cushion, at the bottom, is idiotic and I am willing to change the rules of the game to stop commentators being so confusing.
>>
>>152282840
Or just point the camera from the other end
>>
>>152282840
It was named after Sir Reginald Topp, inventor of snooker.
>>

>If it was, like if you’re looking at it from the baulk end, then the left cushion would be the right cushion and vice versa.
Good observation. Either we're using the player's point of view, or the camera's. But as you said, right now it's simply inconsistent.

>>152282881
>lemon in the bottom right
Imagine people who have been watching snooker for 50 years getting used to it.

>>152282885
The guy after whom they named the opposite cushion must have had hard life at school.

I can talk at moderate length about why it’s better to have the reds at the bottom of the TV screen. The cue ball spends most of its time at that end, and people naturally look towards the bottom of pictures and stuff assuming there isn’t anything interesting at the top. However, I was thinking earlier: snooker was first shown on TV in the 1960s, when TVs had much smaller screens. With the rise of widescreen TVs over the past 20 years or so, it would surely make sense now to broadcast matches in landscape mode rather than portrait mode (so, the break-off shot would go from left to right rather than top to bottom).

>>
>>152282965
That’s what made me think of it, to be honest. But I think they would still want to have a bit of an angle, because otherwise you never see the players. Also, if most balls get potted on the righthand side of the screen, the viewing experience wouldn’t be symmetrical and I think that might make it less comfy.
>>
>>152282978
Must be my fault for watching in a small window then.

Business idea: a tournament where different film etc directors are hired to direct frames however they want

If you try a shot like Si Jiahui is stuck on right now, and you miss, it’s a foul, obviously. But if it hits another ball, the referee has to put it back. So if you saw that you’d missed and caught the cueball in your hand before it hit any other balls, would that be a worse foul? Or would it be fine?

Maybe a bit less? For commentary and punditry together, I would offer him maybe £90,000 a year. But I have no idea really. He definitely gets less than a newsreader, but maybe the same as one of their “correspondents” who report from Ukraine and places.

The BBC's public list of presenter salaries starts at £178,000, and it's all pretty famous people:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c15wxgjn9xjo

Not a single snooker presenter is on there, no Hazel Irvine, no John Virgo, no Rob Walker, no Seema. And Hendry will definitely get less than them. Jason Mohammad is on there, but for other things. So we're going to be talking much less than £90,000 for Hendry, I suspect. It's nearly all news people on the list, as well, so they probably base it on TV ratings. Not many people watch snooker. We could be talking numbers below the average income for the country here. Stephen Hendry might only get £20,000, although to be fair that's still a good sum for maybe six weeks of the year.
