Fun fact: both tournaments won by Uruguay are the only ones Germany did not attend. Refused to participate in 1930 (as did England and all the other home nations, Italy, Spain, Austria, Czechia, Hungary) and was banned from FIFA in 1950

Uruguay being adamant that their Olympic gold medals equal WC wins is such a foolish stance. At the time nothing came close to the prestige of the Olympics, the world's preeminent international sporting event. And there will only ever be 3 Olympics, 1920-1928, where football was played by pro (sr.) men's teams, instead of youth teams by actual Olympians.
Later, fledgling WCs were derided, for being tinpot cups, often making a mockery of football. Very little interest and teams declined invitations or simply didn't bother with them. The consensus back then, it would be laughable to rate a WC over the Olympics, let alone a gold medal.
