>>152514961It’s just not popular or very competitive, we have no real professionalism in it and I think the amount of investment into it is very low. The talent pool is small and those who play it usually do so in a academic circle, they don’t focus on the sport enough to foster elite talent. We have one city with a lot of rugby culture: Heidelberg, one of our major university cities. Heidelberg also is more or less the only German city with basically no football output whatsoeverI think our national association is also rather underdeveloped. They don’t even try to snatch Germans living in rugby nations and being developed there, I thinkBut yes, given how uncompetitive rugby seems at times with its comparatively small amount of involved countries and the massive power gaps, it is a bit disappointing. Being good enough to make it to World Championships (and losing every game by 100 points) can’t be that hard, not like we‘d need millions of players and hyper-elite facilities for that. Italy also draws most of its strength from basically one place, I think, and Georgia, Portugal, and Romania are also better than us despite them being much smaller countries and rugby surely not being huge there

Austria and Switzerland are definitely better than Germany per capita, but if you look across the total output across all sports and events, Germany usually is the best
