The German side was built to match the pace of the European game, but none of their players were actually good.But back to Arrascaeta, down here we aren't afflicted by the pace madness that is European football. Whether it is because of money, cultural and historical reasons, or as veteran players who come back often say, a combination of schedule and weather, it is a fact that South American football is slower. No matter how good he is, a caramujo bichado like Arrascaeta won't shine against the shittiest Europa League team that can press at a high intensity. He can't run and has poor stamina. But in South America pressing isn't as intense and he's one of the best players around. When you see a more intense player, he's like Canobbio or Plata. Runs a lot all game, is helpful, but not as game changing as Arrascaeta or another lento bichado like Pedro. All constraints considered, our clubs will naturally try to form the best squads they can in the context of South American football. And it works. It wins you titles here. But there is a critical mismatch for games against Europeans where intense pressing will take any of our craques bichados out of the game. But it's just one game. You can't build a squad around that.
