Another win for the armchair “supporters’’
>>
RIP English football.
>>
>>152671787
Why is this a bad thing?
>>
>>152671862
Lower divisions and non-league football depends of blackout to have attendance in their matches
>>
>>152671874
nothing of value was lost
>>
It's another episode of Foreign Plastics Don't Understand.
>>
>There's money to be made
>It gets made
Why do Europeans have such a hard time with this concept?
>>
>>152671914
This. Fuck culture and tradition, more money for the masters is all that matters.
>>
>>152671874
Bongs don't attend games if they can watch them on TV?

>culture and tradition
This is about televising soccer matches... aren't you being a tiny bit rhetorical, Gimli?
>>
>>152671945
Yes
>>
>>152671945
It's about passing on local tradition to the next generation and, like foreigners, children are very easily led by TV and marketeers.
>>
>>152671787
i am american and so FAT i need 2 extra chairs to just to support each of my arms. i call them armchair supporters
>>
>>152671966
>like foreigners
Are there any opponents to this concept that aren't just using it as a vessel for their right wing beliefs?
>>
Honestly wouldn't be so bad if they offered clubhouses affordable rates to show the matches. Little Jaydon and Kaydon sat in the non league clubhouse watching the Premslop whilst their dads are pitchside watching real football, a fair compromise. Most smaller clubs struggle to justify the high rates they get charged by Sky and co.
>>
>>152671787
No other league does this
>>
was inevitable, the premier league itself was a money grab from the tv moguls, if anything im surprised it lasted this long
>>
>>152671987
What's 'right wing' about hating globohomo hyper-capitalism?
>>
>>152672069
Hating immigrants is pretty much a staple of Western Conservatism. Don't be ridiculous.
>>
have fun paying twice as much for streaming lmao
>>

I won’t have fun doing that
>>
>>152671787
>Another win for the armchair “supporters’’
Based. I can’t stop winning
>>
>>152672081
It's not the immigrants causing this problem though, it's the international plastics who have been sold the idea of our local clubs being a TV show just for them.

Was more directed at ones in the UK since the blackout never affected people internationally
>>
>>152671787
I don't mind this as long as lower divisions also start playing every day but at a different time slot

>morning: tier 4, tier 3

>>
>>152672481
This is absolutely retarded
>>
>>152672508
Why? I would finally use my television for something and you could sell multitier packages or tickets. A stadium could host two matches a day

>b-but my pitch quality doe
Sissy stuff
>>
>>152672506
Would 100% watch Horseball.
>>
>>152671874
This is absolute bollocks, kek.
Most EFL followers don't care about the EPL and vice versa. You really think the average Stevenage Borough season ticket holder gives a fuck what happens between Arabian Prince FC and Jewish Sports Asset FC?
>>
>>152672081
Rampant right wing Randian Heroism relies on exploiting immigrants. Hating immigrants is the left wing viewpoint that allows the working class to gain more rights and liberty.
>>
>>152672522
You think football stops at tier 4?
>>
>>152672517
You genuinely do not have the first idea what you're talking about.
>>

Highgate cemetery can only survive and be maintained by selling tickets to visitors, capitalising on the fame of the patrons of the graves there. The most famous of which is Karl Marx.
His grave only exists due to capitalism.
>>

Can you at least argue why instead of acting like a bitch?
>>
>>152672534
You understand the point I'm making anon so don't be a slag about it.
>>
>>152672549
And go back and look at my initial post.
Where there's money to be made the money will be had.
>>
>>152672555
Some clubs will be unable to play games because their players won't be available at those times. There are also potential groundshare issues.
>>
>>152672575
Fair, I forgot some of these guys often have other jobs.
>There are also potential groundshare issues.
Fair, but I think they could find a middleground if they wanted to.

Apologies for calling you a female dog.
>>
>>152671787
I'd prefer it if each club could sell viewing/streaming rights to their home games individually. So you could buy the streams to legally watch all of your teams matches for whatever the price is. Presumably deals would be done between clubs so they'd allow opposite features to be streamed to each others set of subscribers.
So out could watch every match your team plays in the league legally for a set price with that money going to the club.
>>
>>152672506
Probably because this thread is specifically about English football and you never indicated otherwise in your post
>>
Bongs really love their outdated laws.
>>
stadiums are going to look like this once that's implemented
>>
>>152671874
But betting mobsters in China deserve to watch Liverpool-Crystal Palace on Saturday evening.
>>
>>152671787
This will kill lower league/non league football not just in england but in Scotland and Wales too
>>
>>152673086
oh no, think of the drunk fatties
>>
>>152673295
Or think of the kids who will grow up only ever watching football on the TV and not in person at their local club because they no longer exist
>>
>>152672701
why are there security jeets manning the walkways with no crowd in?
>>
How does it 'kill' lower league football? Is anything below the championship even on the telly?
>>
>>152673408
the point is people couldn’t watch the 3pm games on TV so they would go and watch their local team in person. If the 3pm games come back on tv a lot of people will stop going to watch their local team and instead watch the prem on tv
>>
>>152672688
not even a law it's just the FA said okay you can't have games on the tv at this time and everyone went along with it LMAOOO
>>
>>152673086
this. the government should pay the ticket price of lower leagues and also give any supporter £100 per lower league match he attends. anything that benefits the attendance of lower league clubs is automatically a good thing
>>
>>152673442
no the point is that you're a fascist who wants to impose your way of how football should be enjoyed on other people instead of just letting people make up their own minds

it's also not at all clear that there would be much effect on attendances, if any
>>
I dont get the issue. My club plays in 3rd division and Im a season ticket holder going to all home games, some random bundes game being on telly at that time doesnt stop me. Surely its the same in England.
>>
>>152673671
there's actually no empirical evidence that it is an issue, it's just conjecture. your 2nd and 3rd tier are very well attended with no blackout
>>
>>152672603
This is what they do in Spain and the most successful teams are completely unbeatable, which is why people enjoy their league less.
>>
Which Premier League matches will actually be shown? If every match kicks off at 1500 on Saturday, that'll be ten matches, but there aren't ten different TV channels. Will they just show Man City, Liverpool and Arsenal every single week? If you want to watch Brighton vs Fulham, you'll probably still wind up going to your local team's match because nobody's going to want to show Brighton-Fulham.
>>
>>152673910
they don't do it in Spain thoughbeit
>>
correct me if i'm wrong but if the PL had their own streaming service for all games at £300/year and 5m people subscribed that would be £1.5bn or close to what they bring in now
>>
>>152674021
Yeah you’re repeating Simon Jordan talking points bro
>>
>>152674064
uh huh?

you wouldn't prefer that over what we have now? wanting on subscription is what a lot of fans want
>>
>>152672081
Sure, if you have the political understanding of a teenaged redditor
>>
>>152674021
I know you guys loathe Yank comparisons but the NFL's recent moves are a real model that is gonna be used eventually.
Tradition dies by the dollar sign and the Premier League itself was a blowing up of the century old league system to better maximize profit and generate television revenue.
>>
>>152674127
oh yeah, what moves are those?
>>
>>152674143
International games, expanding to as many days as possible to show games, pitting broadcast providers against each other to bump up price at the negotiation table. You may even run into them increasing the size of the EPL to create more games.
>>
>>152673347
It's mandated for safety and fire regulations.
If the stadium is active it has to be manned even if it's just for training.
It's a huge complex so you have to make sure there's nothing major smuggled in and there's no hidden fire in some hidden corner that suddenly engulfs half the stadium.
>>
>>152674143
I was thinking about the NFL Sunday Ticket deal with I think Youtube.
Post-Cable there's a lot of streamers and websites looking for content and now there were Christmas Games (something that they used to concede to the NBA until a couple years ago) on Netflix
Bigger bidding wars for different matchdays and packages by getting deals with streaming services and websites.
>>
>>152674172
the calendar's pretty packed already so I doubt the PL would be expanded, international games are out because the fans don't want them

the other things we already do, probably before your country had even thought about doing them. that's just how superior we are
>>
>>152674216
>international games are out because the fans don't want them
Not sure if retarded or just naive
>>
>>152674235
they'd riot, something the pansies in your country would never do. we keep our American owners in check
>>
>>152674216
>the fans don't want them
Doesn't matter, frankly a lot of Americans would show up for a "real" Premier League match.
Smaller clubs could benefit a lot from filling a 60,000 seat stadium to gawking Americans willing to pay a few hundred dollars for an experience instead of trying to fill their 30,000 seat stadium with tickets that don't cost more than a 20 quid is simply too appealing to clubs that are constantly in the red. Barcelona almost did it, it eventually happening is inevitable.
>>
>>152674286
England isn't Spain, when was the last time there was a real uprising in Britain? The 17th century?
>>
>>152674313
The US isn't even the worry. The worry for them should be Saudi Arabia or India.
>>
>>152674338
we're pretty much just superior to you, m8. sorry not sorry if that galls you
>>
>>152674313
it does matter actually. the PL talked about that in 2008 and now they say they won't do it, due to fan pressure
>>
>>152674376
Superior in what?
Armchair revolutionaries talking about the coming uprising on Facebook while watching hours of television and overeating?
You think your cities could beat out American cities in having a passive populace that some fat non-binary sociology major knows are two more weeks of Trump away from all those passive people dusting off the old hammer and sickle, having a general strike and leading a global socialist revolution that topples the corrupt money hungry billionaires and feeds the beggars and children.
>>
>>152674457
you are very mad right now. how is that working out for you?
>>
>>152674406
That was 18 years ago, they've wanted to do shit like that for damn near 2 decades.
All willpower and fan pressure eventually loses strength. Every year that goes by more 90 year old lifelong supporters who remember when those boys were part of the community dies, and one more kid who learned about football through Panini cards and Champions League primetime matchups has a kid they raise to love the Champions League on Wednesday nights and the team of stars playing the team of stars.
Soon all the people who want to riot over a home game being moved to New York, Miami, Dubai or Dallas will be too old to riot and all that will be left are men who liked watching Arsenal and United on TV back when they were kids.
>>
>>152674338
Depends on how you define it. The Civil War was indeed in the 1600s, but we had some public seethe in 2011 about government austerity and we get small-scale riots from boomer Facebook retards every summer now.

Even Brexit was just your version of Trump.
All in all we're the most boring of the boring countries when it comes to revolution. When you think of Revolution you're most likely to think of a song by a group of men who by then were millionaires complaining about how revolution is bad because you're breaking things and Chairman Mao sounds like a real jerk.

This is terrible for small clubs. You're basically going from an equal distribution TV deal to one where big clubs have a huge advantage and lopsided TV revenues which would turn the league into La Liga tier real quick. Man United would probably make 3x-4x more than small clubs because they would have more subscribers to their services and make parity even worse.

If you want to check out what outside clubs do, there are TV highlights. If you want to watch live sport, get off your arse and support your local team. If your town doesn't have a team, help set one up. Simple. English football is at heart a tribal thing and an opportunity to meet up and talk shit about neighbouring towns, a progression from just outright wars/raids.
