>USL will launch a new division in 2028 that will be considered Tier 1 of USA Football>MLS will continue to exist and also be considered Tier 1How will this work? Teams from both leagues qualify for Continental Competition? Champions of both leagues have a play off to decide who the national champion is? Does any other country have two competing top divisions where the split is NOT geographical?
>>152703815i'd be shocked if USL managed to launch this, they barely get 5k people at a game, they have no money, no big media deals, and no publicity.i think india is going through this double league situation right now though, maybe it's with cricket? there's a huge discussion on how to merge the leagues i believe.
I think it depends which one is recognised by US Soccer in regards to CONCACAF/FIFA berths. It's an absolute fucking shitshow anyway.>>152704092Wouldn't be cricket, that's the IPL. I think you might be on about the Indian Super League which has been delayed for 2025/26 because the money behind it ran out.
i don't know why american soccer doesn't try to split the difference between a franchise model and pro/rel. by this i mean put a hard limit on how many tiers there are -- say, 2 -- this way franchise owners have a cap on how far down they can be relegated.
>>152704131Could work, that's what South Korea did until this season.
>>152704131For the exact same reasons why regular pro/rel will never be a thing for MLS. Jews.
>>152705065They can't keen getting away with it!
