Yes, and Phoenix couldve had a chance if they ran it at night, in early March, getting casuals eyes.
>they are smaller than nascars minor league
lets start that campaign, so we can flip the FIA points with the series, along with TV deals. I

Im tired of the busch series guys not getting a far shot at F1, and lets get Indy on The CW, and busch on FOX. While we are at it lets make sure FOX doubles down on their investment in the busch series, and its long history of running at indy (110 years in 2026 for the busch series there!)

>He'll have the title locked up long before Laguna Seca
Thats true, but Im being optimistic with the field:
>Mclaren (theyre strong)
>Andretti (Power brings feedback to the car, maybe ericsson grabs another 500?)
>Penske (they cant be that "off" again right?)
>ECR (on ovals theyre a force)
A lot of teams are hopefully taking steps forward to avoid total CGR domination. I want Castroneves to get a fifth 500 (he finished 10th last year), Sato, and RHR also ran great races, and are going to be a problem for the field. At the same time we are due for a first time winner lo (indy magic). Armstrong and Simpson are my sleepers to grab wins next year.
>such an amazing place to watch a race

Two top 3 finishes in Indy Lights, and joining Ferrucci. I dont see the teams slipping, I could be wrong, but Ferrucci is hungry to get a win. Then there are the Hauger/Foster/Schumacher factors in the field. This season is going to be great

yeah but Indy doesn't award double points anymore, so even if Armstrong won the crown jewel race, a top 5 in the championship is unlikely with Meyer-Shank's current power level.
my main gripe with IndyCar is the other races besides Indy aren't promoted as a big deal. to me, Indy is the long oval crown jewel, Milwaukee is the short oval crown jewel, Long Beach is the street circuit crown jewel, and Road America is the permanent road circuit crown jewel. but I might be biased.

Mansell was only in American open wheel racing for 2 years, JPM was in for 7 years. There's simply more footage of him. That isn't an argument o e way or the other for who is better, just an observation.

Watkins Glen with the new car maybe if attendance is up. I dont see any new ovals for a bit to make sure the new car is safe

There is a lot to be excited about. It is still absolutely excellent to see inroads being made between NASCAR and IndyCar. There aren't exactly that many race fans these days and any chance to get single series fans to cross over is valuable. It's also cool to have a Trucks road course (it's gonna be a shit show) and it's cool to see IndyCar back a Phoenix. I expect that race will be the best of the weekend.

Yeah, Dixon, Power and Kirkwood should definitely have promos, too. Newgarden was something like 15 at the end of the season. Granted, he won the last race, but Kirkwood won 3 and Rasmussen won one too and they don't have a TV spot.

im beyond excited for the season, but im going to flick them shit for scheduling it like a bunch of fucking retards. If you look at the times, they are all set for Penskes bedtime. Its fucking retarded to co-main event for the busch series, but to do at 12pm/3pm, WITH A CHAMP SEEKING HIS 4th straight title, cmon now. They should change it, it cheapens the entire series.
>inroads
its the FOX/CW connection, I dont see anything more beyond it, especially opening for the xfinity series, on a one year prove it deal. its a stepping stone for them to fuck it up lol. if the race is good, great? now the xfinity series is on after to occupy short attention spans, and indy to walk away with iowa numbers, and no renewal.
>12pm/3pm
thats the window they are slotted for, on an oval. We saw them produce under the lights last year, and now they shy away from it. Maybe it has to do with the tire, and they wont admit it.
>2018
they ran the race at 6pm/9pm. something spooked them to do this, maybe the tires. Probably retardation. Maybe both?
>Run the race on its own day
What does this say about the INDY500? Someone at Indy shouldve said no from the fucking start. The might as well have the FIA swap the series points, if the nascar feeder series draws more than open wheel racing. Kill indycar before the short dead period in April.
>>
>>152918221
>the other races besides Indy aren't promoted as a big deal
Yeah, that's one thing Daily talks about a lot. Things like not seeing any local advertising and even running into someone who recognized him, but didn't know IndyCar was in town. Hopefully, Fox fixes this. Hopefully FOX will push the races on their networks so at least the TV numbers will be better. The early season looks much better for fan retention, too. I just think they need a solid oval like Gateway after the 500 so all those new or one race fans can see a race that is at least similar to what they just saw in Indianapolis.

They have that whole pit crew content at the Indy 500. What if they did that every weekend and made a series out of that. I always felt those guys don't get enough recognition and I was happy when NASCAR started doing pit crew features, but I then they stopped.
>>
You guys ever get to talk to any of the guys in the pit crew pre-race? Seems like a fun job
>>
>>152948035
I talked to the guy in charge of the Corvette pace cars (they bring 2 to each race to have a backup) last time I went to Road America. he showed us the modifications they made to it for pace car use (like custom lights that match the bodywork instead of just sticking a big lightbar on top)
>>
>>152948900
>showed us the modifications they made to it for pace car use
there is so much more Indy could be producing. The dead period in April? Have it filled with programming building everything else up, that ISNT the driver. Build the crew, habits etc so entering May its got people itching for more as the season continues.
>like custom lights that match the bodywork instead of just sticking a big lightbar on top
Exactly! this stuff should be showcased by someone who knows when/if certain things will change, so they reveal the right things at the right time. If the car adjusts lights every 20 years, probably dont mention every single season, but maybe show it in passing shots. But if it does change EVERY year, work that into the season. Make it a talking point, the more bridges to get people to stay for the race, or consume a clip, to drop in for a race, the better.
>>
>>152946916
A points system for the pit crews. measuring statistics that teams value, not just bullshit numbers, and let them compete. Im with you, they should get recognition, and at the same time, any mistake is felt more, perfect way to build up the stops, and the on track action.

I understand where you’re coming from. The hard part with sprinkling in Indycar in a general, as mentioned below, is it’ll get lost in the mix, and then it becomes a searching game. I know most won’t want to seek it, so they just consume the general thread, and life goes on, indycar on the back burner again. The reason for this thread was to compile the indycar “news” and general talk into something more than a quick 1-3 replies per general, that get lost in the mix. More news will come for the new car, and having a long term continuous thread to scroll down can be nice for those that take the time off. I understand keeping it together, and it makes sense when in season, but for the slow paced offseason, it’s a small hub to build on thoughts. You even have a guy popping in to call the car gay from a photo posted 10+ days ago lol

I know the turnleft posting can be pretty heavy, but I've learned to enjoy the series, which is good because there is a TON of content for it.

i'd say a mix. hinch and bell are the gold in the booth, once it was clear they had more going on, he spoke up more. with a trio someone has to play it slightly different so i dont fault him

im with you, they have potential to build some great chemistry, and with three voices, can weave the commentary together on the dominated weekends. Even with the Palou runaways, Bell and Hinch always highlighted the action on the track and arent scared to ask for shots.

Fact.

officials standing behind Andretti as they worked to solve it, then calling the caution is funky, because race control shouldve had info on the car being "inop", right? hopefully they put some checks in place to throw the yellow sooner.

>that crash at Road America sucks
That was pretty nasty, but it wasn't his first bad crash. If you scrool up to that 1965 Riverside NASCAR race I linked a few days ago, he had a huge Juan where he breaks his leg(s) and gets taken away on a stretcher. It's insane that these guys come so close to death and endure unimaginable pain and suffering just to spend weeks in agonizing physical therapy just to get back in a car and do it again.
>motor racing will never be completely safe.
And I think that's part of what makes it so exciting. I very scincerly do not want to see anyone get hurt, but if they were just drones out on track, it simply wouldn't be the same. I literally thought we saw Preece die when he flipped at Daytona and I was really worried about Newgarden after he hit Foster at Gateway. That was especially disturbing because I was watching it on TV and it cut back to his onboard less than 10 seconds before the crash. I guess the worst crash in the last few years was Simon Pagenaudat Mid-Ohio. Lucky he didn't die, but he'll never race again. They said they were worried he wouldn't even be able to be at the track because of the noise. Very sad.
>>
>>152995688
Buxton is great. You can tell he is a genuine fan. He clearly understands motor racing and makes lots of good observations. His being a newfag to IndyCar has actually been beneficial because he asks really insightful questions. I think he might be my favorite guy in the booth at this point. I was absolutely ready to hate him, but he won me over by the end of St. Petersburg. IDK why the F1 fags hate him so much. Whatever, I'm glad we got him and that he's in a place where he's appreciated.

Yeah, he seemed to have an issue managing the way the car changed over the stint in IndyCar. Those disciplines basically eliminate that.

Agreed. Thats my biggest reasoning for not hating the DW12 being in service as long as it has. I'd rather have a car that is crash tested than a rushed model that puts drivers in a worse spot.
>I was really worried about Newgarden after he hit Foster at Gateway
That was a hard ride to watch. Thank fuck he didnt go over the wall. >>152995634 I know he is a pro, but that wreck wouldve gave some guys the yips. I see him having a bounce back season

Another wall that gives me the chills, is the one at Indy, primarily coming around the corner. We know the guys work sweeping moves there, and will dip into pit lane, but that fucking wall, its stiff (a little give sure) but once a car breaks that crumple zone, who knows. That wall scares the fuck out of me.

Agreed. It's also while I don't hate the aero screen being kind of a ckludge. I'm convinced it's saved at least one driver since its implementation.
>That was a hard ride to watch
It also lucky he hit the engine and not the safety cell, or whatever it's called on the Dalara. It saved Newgarden's legs and I'm glad we didn't have to find out if it would have saved foster.
>drag racing, formula e, and hydroplane racing: coming soon
IDK, about all that, but I'm down. David Land said he briefly appeared on the Dale Coyne website a few days ago, so there is speculation that he may have a seat with them for 2026, at least in some capacity. I don't think he'd be an Indy 500 only entry, but who knows.

There are definitely a lot of great personalities they could feature, but they have to draw the line somewhere. Nolan Segal doesn't really need a spot (it would be fine if he had one) but Power and Dixon absolutely deserve to be promoted and I think it would be easy for sportsball people to identify with them. On that note, I'm a little conflicted. On the one hand, I want the series to be popular and get good funding, but I'm not excited about getting flooded by normies and having to compete for tickets with them. Like I said in the other thread, I'd probably go to an F1 race, even though I don't really loke F1, if it was $800 to get in the door.

>I'm a little conflicted
I know where youre coming from, and ill gladly say Ill walk away from motorsports the day it feels like its overrun with f1 shit in indy. They have a long enough history I could rewatch every season in place of a current season for the rest of my life if I felt a void.
>$800 to get in the door

>>
>>153009582
on the F1 vs Indy. Indy has F1 beat with the geography of the US imo, but they underutilize the time zones. They were wanting to go to Mexico, which isnt a bad track (formula e race was excellent), but I'd rather keep all dates in the US, add 2 more races, and beat NASCAR for the top american racing series. They have Zillisch who is a stud, and will eclipse Indy big time if they arent careful with their cookie cutter shit lol. CGR could always try and sign him for an ungodly amount of money, but I'd say we see him in an F1 car before an Indy car

I honestly think he is exactly where he wants to be. He could have easily gotten an IndyCar seat by now with a "starter team" like Coyne or Juncos, but he chose NASCAR. That isn't to say some F1 team won't drive a dump truck full of money up to his house.

>Kaku Ohta
the hype is building.. honda probably holds him until the new car.
>who will end up higher on points this season. Hauger, Schumacher or Siegel?
Hmmm in that order, but it could shift, Hauger, Schumacher, Siegel
>Hauger is at DCR who aligned with Andretti
Reigning NXT champ, and filling a seat Veekay maximized. Foyt last year had some great cars (Malukas on board helped). Something similar could happen this year + the Andretti improve the quality of what is shared.
>Schumacher is at RLL
They improved management, and Foster was really solid. Rahal is still a good driver, it is always strategy or dogshit cars. I could see him bumping Hauger, IF the three cars have on track chemistry, and work to build data. They have the drivers to be competitive.
>Seigel is at Arrow
He needs to drive with some sense, but maintain a chip on his shoulder. Im not sure how he finishes the season top 15, and I like being optimistic with drivers, mainly so they show up and go for a one off victory. He did just turn 21, i mean if they dump him, why not dump him into another discipline, and let him grow.

Maybe they have RHR coaching him, if so then yeah light work for him, but if Foster doesnt regress, things could be interesting. Rahal/Daly/Ericsson/Illott/Simpson are slotted just ahead. We are getting primed for a wild season!
>>
>>153080068
That's the thing to me. When you have Chip Ganassi and McLaren at the top of the standings, the weakest driver becomes more notorious for the team. Simpson got a podium and could've gotten a second one in Nashville. Nolan's best was 8th, be it luck or strat calls. Nolan and his crew need to focus to the max this season, one can only hope TK's call works.
>>153080114
I'm feeling Hauger will be in contention for at least 2 top 5 finishes at road courses. I've got no idea what Schumacher can achieve this year, having next to no experience at ovals compared to Hauger it could be fun to see his learning experience.
