IHRA now owns a property with a road course and a dirt track in addition to a drag strip. Unfortunately, the press release doesn't mention anything about either. It mostly focuses on making it a "multiuse facility," which is good for business, but I want to see more road racing facilities up and running. https://ihra.com/ihra-acquires-heartland-motorsports-parkIt isn't FIA Grade 1 or anything, but it's a pretty good track and it looks fast as hell. I doubt IndyCar or IMSA Weathertech would be interested, but I can't say it's much worse than Portland or Nola. Anyway, it would be great for SRO and IMSA Pilot Challeng and maybe even Trans-Am. It's a bit of a pipe dream, but the current model for track owners is leasing their facilities to racing series, so there is definitely precedence for it.https://youtu.be/5O-w6UzHmiALooking into the dirt track, there is one to the side, but apparently, before they buit that, they used to make a temporary one that crossed the drag strip, WTF!?!?!https://youtu.be/2BAPYzoaO28This whole thing feels like a fever dream that is destined to come crashing down at any moment, but I'm going to remain optimistic for now based on what we saw from the IHRA drag racing events in 2025. I presume we will get at least a year or two of kino out of this venture.
