how can i learn to enjoy or at least tolerate watching sports?my gf's dad thinks im a gay retard because i cannot talk about sports with him. I like playing sports myself but I just cannot bring myself to care at all about watching someone else play sports. any way to stay up to date about sports (football or F1 specifically) enough to be able to hold at least a superficial conversation?
>>152780824Staying up to date is very easy, especially about F1. There‘s a race every two weeks, just check the standings and remember who is on top and specifically how Verstappen is doing. Read a news article about last race to know how it went. And then check where next race is. That’s it for F1Keeping track of all of football is harder, it depends on what the people you want to talk to are interested in. If your gf‘s dad likes to follow Eredivisie and a specific club, then it’s fairly easy. Learning about the best players of that club probably takes like 15 minutes, then check the standings and the last and next games. And be sure to have a bit of trashtalk about the local rivals at hand It really isn’t hard if the sports are popular. There’s a reason sports are basically the #1 male smalltalk topicGenerally, if you like a certain sport and do it yourself, watching it played on the highest level is very understandable. If nothing else works, talk about the sport you do. That’s better than nothing
>>152780952aight thanks mate that helps a lot
>>152780824you don't like to watch sweaty men hugging each others....you're gay or something son?
>>152780824sports gambling.spend a few bongs on whatever sport you're watching and as if by magic you genuinely care.
Just have to genuinely like the sport. I got my gf into football by playing Madden, she would be cooking but hear chris Collinsworth in madden 2010 say shit like "that's a huuuge sack" or ' amazing penetration, right up the middle" and would crack her up. Then while eating im balls deep in a season id explain the stakes, and what plays i needed to pull off and somethjng clicked, she started understanding the rules. A year later she is watching games with me and our cities team, but she understood what she was seeing. Got a deeper understanding of how important 3rd/4th down conversions are, turns overs, field position, time manegment, having a great qb/rb/wr etc etc, 6 years later she is winning fantasy leagues and updates me on injuries and seed standings. I watched her go from a 18 yr with no interest at all, to nfl analyst in half a decade because she actually loves the game of football. The funnest sport to play is hockey, funnest to watch is NFL, I love playing soccer but cant stand watching it. I hate playing basketball (would rather play horse) and only enjoy the last 5 minutes of NBA games. All the minutes before hand are useless. Baseball is slightly more fun to play than watch, but they have to be playoff/world series games, and it is electric and every play counts. Just find the sport your gfs dad loves, and give it a shot. Spend 4 minutes a day staying up to date on the talking points if talking with him is something you cant avoid. Learn the sport and it's nuances and players and stuff, it might grab you.
>>152781453Bet she liked that amazing penetration right up the the middle
>>152781474She is, infact, a huge sack and penetration lover. She also realized football players have huge asses in tights so she stayed watching i guess. I wish that girl in underwear football league still existed. Vince Mcmahon needs to bring it back
>>152780824Start betting on sports.
>>152780824Just lurking /sp/ gives me basic news for soccer and F1 even if I absolutely despise both. Even if you don't want to watch, it doesn't take much to read up on what's happening to at least have some talking points with him over dinner. Either that or you assert yourself that people can like whatever they damn well please. Take control of the situation by making him listen to want to talk about rather than the other way around. You like playing sports, so talk about your own exploits, better than gawking at someone else's achievements.Or just try watching hockey/baseball/handegg for a change.
>>152780824Just start talking about women's volleyball or gymnastics. When other people ask you about men's sports, you can just tell them they're gay for wanting to watch games where sweaty buff dudes grope each other for several hours at a time.
>>152781612Show them figure skating. 15 yr olds in skirts pulling off athleticism that no soccer or hockey player could dream of. It is 10/10 impressive but also very not gay
>>152780824>my gf's dad thinks im a gay retardAnd he'll think of you as a double gay retard the moment you try to show interest in sports for the sole reason of appeasing him, which would be consistent with what is also seen here as OP is gay. You're at his house because you have to fuck his daughter. If you absolutely must break a sweat, find a job in the mines
>>152781453>I hate playing basketball (would rather play horse) and only enjoy the last 5 minutes of NBA games.last 5 minutes on the clock or the last 5 minutes of farming free throws for an hour?
>>152781302>>152781514that's probably the best advise
>>152781674Both. If it is a close game those last few minutes are ace. Not a chance im watching the first half of a game tho. Free throws are exciting when it is down to the wire. Some players just cant pull themn off
>>152781662the man has 3 daughters and waited all his life to have someone to talk about sports withmy gf's sister's bf is into football and they really hit it off. it was mental how stark the contrast is between how he treats me and how he treats him over christmas
Put a baby inside of her and he will stop thinking you're gay.
>>152780824You could watch the NT during the world cup even if it is the most casual option and get something to say there, after that it would be the occasional opinion when they play every few months
You have to adapt to what specifically he’s interested in and copy and simulate a bit. It’s easy to miss his specific interest, and then you might talk past each other if staying in touch isn‘t really your thing and you cannot be all in in general. Of course, the art is not just being a clueless parrot, that would probably piss him offIf his main F1 interest is Verstappen, then you will have an easy time looking up where Verstappen finished last race, where he is at in the championship standings, whether he struggled last race, and who his main rivals are. In case of him being a Verstappen fan, it would be probably wise to be ready to reliably mock Hamilton, Russell and Norris as overrated hacksWatching F1 is easy, especially if you can focus on one driver. Most people watch it somewhat passively. There are e laugh info graphics for you to get by. Just don’t fall into the trap and think someone is actually ahead when they have one stop fewerFootball is more effort, more risk, and also more reward. Focusing on his club and anything related to it. You should get by with news and some basic research adapted to his interest, but watching and understanding the game would take some work if you have no clue about the game. Very easy to look gay here. If your future stepdad is nice, he may actually take you through that journey if you show interest and have the basics but admit to not being an expert, enabling him to teach you. That could be a good bonding experience if you are enthusiastic and willing to learn, surely better than not saying anything or saying nonsense
>>152782751World Cup this summer will obviously be the basic. That’s also the easiest to get away with being a casual, being patriotic will be half the battle
>>152782751>e laugh info graphicsApologies for phoneposting, I meant to say „enough“
