I've never seen a team get absolutely gifted so many chances at "Getting it right" only to completely fumble. Hall, Nugent-Hopkins, Yakupov and McDavid. 4 1st overall picks in 5 years is insane. Not to mention a 3rd overall pick in 2014.

At least the Penguins had success after getting lucky in the draft. 2003 they moved up from third to first to draft Fleury, lost out on Ovechkin and got lucky with Malkin 2nd overall and finally got Crosby in 2005 and Staal in 2006. The thing is even if they missed out on Crosby in 2005, Bobby Ryan was still a solid player and they probably take Toews in 06. That still probably wins a Cup or two. Meanwhile McMeme lost back to back Cups.
