https://twitter.com/AustralianOpen/status/2011334668839502330>Sebastian Ofner made a sorry exit from Australian Open qualifying after forgetting the rules and celebrating victory early - before going on to lose the match.>The Austrian thought he had clinched victory over Nishesh Basavareddy at 7-1 in the third-set tie-break and raised his arms in celebration, pointing at his head as he walked towards the net to shake hands with his American opponent.>However, final-set tie-breaks are played to 10 points, meaning he still needed another three points to win.>Ofner only realised his mistake when the umpire briefly spoke to him.>Basavareddy then reeled off eight of the next nine points on the way to winning 4-6 6-4 7-6 (13-11) and advancing to the final round of qualifying at Melbourne Park.>The 20-year-old held his hands to his neck in a 'choking' gesture before letting out a roar of celebration.State of some of these points.
The funniest thing was that Nick told everybody he would say it in Sinner's face, but he didn't. He was standing around, too scared to approach him. All talk no bite
>>152972818Don’t like the ten points tiebreak at all to be day with you. It just feels overlong and baggy, and one player always seems to take an unassailable lead about 7 points in. They really nailed it first time around with the first to 7.
>>152972818KWABOTY stuff, how embarrassing
How was Tommeh vs Opoopka? Gonna watch the replay today if it was a steamer
>>152972849Disagree with every single part of this post.
>>152972849stupidest fucking rule change since I've started following tennis
>>152972978
>>152972849>>152973104It was a good change. 10 gives more room to breathe. Increased chances of momentum changes instead of a player getting out to a 4-1 lead and it already feeling over. A match in a deciding set TB has probably been going for a long time so the less flukey the better. Now whether they should've added final set tiebreaks at all is separate discussion.

>>152973319When a player goes up 4-1 in a regular tie break you think “oh boy the losing player really needs to win a couple of points right now this is super tense and exciting if the other guy gets another point it’s basically game over!!!”When a player goes up 4-1 in a super tie break you think “hmm. this player has a sizeable advantage at this early stage. it will be difficult and one suspects unlikely for the other player to recover this advantage, given the pattern of play so far indicates player a to be the superior. I guess we will find out in ten minutes when player A wins 10-7”
>>152972978>grug give hand to fofo
>>152973319It shouldn’t be a thing in a final. It’s a lame ending.
>>152973556Definitely shouldn't exist in a final. That Wimbledon 2019 final did not need a fucking tiebreak. That scoreline is such an eyesore to me, especially because it was at 12-12. Seeing 13-12 is just wrong. But I get why they exist in the other rounds. The matches can extend to the point where the winner will be cooked in the next round and it can throw out the schedule. Both those things don't apply in a final.
you can't have different rules for the final
>>152973720You can do whatever you want. Masters finals used to be best of 5 with the rest of the tournament being best of 3.
Anything but Sinncarasisters...I don't feel so good. Our prospect, our best shot...
