I could see an argument that dog fighting is a sport, but nothing where you could theoretically compete on different days in different buildings through a zoom call is a sport.

There's no reason they need to be in the same place as the judge, as any of the other dogs, or even be judged on the same day. There's no reason a dog show couldn't pit whatever dog shows up against a recording of a dog from 100 years ago in another country (in fact, that's basically what every conformation show is, comparing each dog to a theoretical perfect example of the breed). At no point are the dogs ever competing against each other; they're just competing against a judge's scorecard.

They need to be able to get a sense of each dog's temperament and how it compares to the breed standard. A bullmastiff that looks great on camera but shies away from the judge or gets nervous around other dogs in the ring doesn't conform to the breed standard. In other cases like with chihuahuas, the breed standard is extremely strict with weights and the judge can actually put the dog on a scale if there's any doubt whether the dog exceeds the 6 pound limit.
