By which of the 1,000 meme metrics you can use for this?
Americans on 4chan would never acknowledge football as a top 6 sport even if it was by far the biggest sport there. That’s my metric
>>
Without clicking on the article I'm going to wager they are basing it off participation rates and literally nothing else that factors in professional interest
>>
>>153085117
surprised it isnt cricket.
>>
>>153085117
Yeah they're watching fc bicho play joto united on espn desportes
>>
>>153085427
I often feel like the most damaging thing for football in the US is that Americans connect it with Mexico
>>
>>153085384
They asked 100 people what their favorite sport was, 10 answered soccer and 9 answered baseball
>>
>>153085439
Mexicans don't watch soccer desu senpai so that would be factually incorrect racism
>>
>>153085459
>Mexicans don't watch soccer
>The most popular sport in mexico is soccer
>Mexico literally plays all their home games in places like los Angeles, Dallas, Houston, Las Vegas, Denver because they can fill a stadium of 80k Chicanos effortlessly
>>
>>153085384
You would have lost then. It is a survey at least
>Soccer has reached a new benchmark in the United States. Per The Economist, 10 percent of Americans now identify soccer as their favorite sport, edging it narrowly ahead of baseball, long considered the country's pastime. Only American football and basketball rank higher in overall popularity

In participation, soccerball is apparently already second, only behind basketball

Baseball is at 9%, basketball at 17%, handegg at 36%. Ice hockey is at 4%
>>
>>153085117
Inter Miami couldn't even get an actual parade when the Panthers could, fuck out of here with "popularity"
>>
It's so over for this nation
>>
>>153085382
Americans on 4chan are the biggest liars the world has ever seen
>>
>>153085249
cricket should be exploding in popularity then
>>
>>153085439
we connect it with women's athletics and miserable middle school summers of being forced to join a little league team when we were 11 where they don't even keep score because "it promotes toxic masculinity*.
>>
>>153085117
I told you the motherfucking Dodgers are going to ruin this sport
>>
>>153085998
the "Americans" who like soccer don't watch MLS. they watch Premier League and whatever the top LatAm league is.
>>

Tick tock, Americans ...

Sure thing, grandpa. Let's put you to bed, okay?
>>153086389
The more they lash out over football, the more popular it is in the US
>>
Why do yanks forget they had the second pro league in the world during the 20s and their national team was top 5?
>>
>>153086328
>limit amount that can be deferred once past threshold
>establish floor instead of cap
>remove dodger preferential treatment and broadcast revenue cap
That should help a bit
>>
>>153086717
The ASL was the second pro league? I hope you don't mean the second-best. And by top 5, I sure hope you mean on the continent of America, because I really doubt they had any chance against the home nations, Uruguay, Argentina, Austria. Just to name a few

>The English Daily Express newspaper wrote: "It would be fair to give the U.S. three goals of a start."

People "play" soccer here and in America for exercise. It's light jogging with an alleged game happening. It's the homeopathic version of a sport.

Basketball was also invented by a Canadian teaching in America as winter exercise since Americans are so fat.

There is absolutely no way this is true. I have lived in the mid-Atlantic my whole life and have never met a single person who followed MLS. I'm not sure I've even seen anybody wearing a soccer jersey
>but muh hispanics
Follow football, baseball, and basketball.

How in the fuck is this even calculated? Revenue wise, baseball is much bigger. Attendance wise, baseball is much bigger. Culturally, baseball is much bigger. Baseball players make significantly more money than soccer players in the MLS. Game 7 of the World Series had over 51 million viewers across the US, Canada, and Japan. Individual games in the world series had more American viewers than the World Cup Finals.

Gee I wonder why
>>
Turns out people don't want to watch the super team Dodgers buy championships over and over
>>
>>153088188
Who says people give a fuck about the MLS?
It was a survey that asked people which sports are their favorite. 10% said yuro football, as opposed to 36% for gridiron football, 17% for basketball, and 9% for baseball. Perhaps they have left out many old people and therefore underestimated baseball. Maybe it's not accurate, but your anecdotal evidence isn't convincing either. Many Englishmen will gladly tell you about Americans bandwagoning their clubs, and I have personally seen many dozens of Americans wearing Barcelona/Real Madrid/Bayern/Premier League shirts, even some Inter Miami ones
If it was only about MLS, then football surely wouldn't be third. Many Americans watch the Premier League, though. There also are surprisingly many who watch the Primera Division and even the Bundesliga
But yes, you could use like a dozen metrics to rank sports by popularity. Revenue and attendance only looking at the leagues in the US would probably be the most flawed, even more flawed than an arguably weird survey

Why did Manfred think this would be a good thing?
Does he not realize markets outside of LA exist or did he somehow think that sports fans were going to abandon their local teams so they can frontrun for the dodgers from thousands of miles away? I'm so confused here
>>
>>153088419
>why would you root for a losing team when the dodgers have won back to back world series and can keep winning more

baseball just isn't interesting in the TV era. the NFL overtook the MLB in the 60s. the purpose of baseball was to have something to do after work back before you had a royal flush of choice of things to do at home.
>>
>>153088456
franchise system usually is more competitive because even the weakest teams have a ton of money coming in because sponsors and fans are assured they'll always have a spot at the 'big kids table'. promotion and relegation is unstable, so the smaller clubs are always at a huge financial deficit to the big ones.

there is a possibility that a shitter squad like the Texans or the White Sox can fall arse-backward into the playoffs or even a championship. it's significantly less likely for a club like Brentford to because they're lucky to get a single season with access to Premier League fan attendance and TV advertising deals.

This is false. The USA has a Hispanic population of 65 million. Of that 40 million are Mexicans
