how does one even become a tottenham fan? I genuinely cant think of a single reason other than Bale, every single big club has something but not tottenham: Man U - history, legendary playersChelsea - Racism, nice aestheticArsenal - Zoomer friendly, "multicultural" clubCity - Recent success, great playersLiverpool - sovl, recent successTottenham - ??? Bale and maybe if you're Jewish, but Levy is gone so that's not a reason anymore
As far as I can remember you could find Spurs merch in sport shops anywhere in the country, so its an overcommercialised club. Moreover, when I was a kid Arsenal was having success under Wenger and would win the league periodically, so a lot of kids become glory supporters for Arsenal. It's my theory that some kids are naturally contrarian and picked Tottenham just because other kids in their social circle were irritating plastic fans (in this case, for Arsenal).
they're a nice 'safe' club to support, like fulham
>>153262037Berbatov
>>153262037white upper middle class people in the home counties tend to support them, they are the highest status of the london clubsthey have also had a lot of popular players for boomers, hoddle, greaves, gascoigne, lineker, perryman, nicholson and in england people tend to support their dads clubthey also have some more recent support for players like kane, son, bale as you said especially asians for son
People had high hopes for them on the late 2000's and many thought they'd win something important, even including the club on the 'big 5' or something, which was proven to be totally exaggerated. They didn't win shit but you don't want to change the club because you're not a fucking pussy. But well, today I don't think people would easily want to be associated with, unless you live near the stadium or have parents who support them. But then again, this is the same case for >70% of the Premier League clubs, I see nothing unusual.
>>153262053I see, those sound like valid reasons tbf>>153262058whats so exciting in a 'safe' club?>>153262067United, ask any zoomer they'll be surprised he played for tottenham
>>153262037I've been wondering about that as well. It seems like a genuinely boring club in most ways. They don't feel "big", but they aren't a "soulful" plucky underdog either. They seem very commercializedThey surely had an interesting squad a few years ago, but I just don't see why people who aren't from that community get interested in the club. Especially the international bandwagoners (minus Koreans, they support anything with Koreans like Son)I'm not saying the club is super tinpot and tiny, but them being portrayed as a big and relevant club just feels wrong
>>153262092i dont know how much international bandwagoning there is, i suppose all big english clubs will have some just from people liking the idea of the epl and actively looking for a clubyou get some tourists sure but then tourists just go to london and just want to see english football for the experienceyou get clueless tourists at london championship and below clubs too these days there are youtube videos interviewing them to just bully them its kinda mean but also funny
There is no reason for anyone to support a club that doesn't represent their local area.
>>153262518this
>>153262037They are drawn to their logo ie they love cocks
>>153262518Basically this, yesThough stuff like "my father grew up in X and he supports X club" make sense and are valid exceptionsPeople from areas with little football culture are also partially excused in my opinion, but these guys can be the most obnoxious - if they consciously chose the club. My city's local club isn't super big but has a few international fans because of its university, I think that's valid
