It's almost time for the 59th most prestigious event in all of Yurosport

Tonight, at the Levi's Jeans Stadium, 40 miles from San Francisco (imagine Blackpool playing their games in Burnley), the Seattle Seahawks face a resurgent New England Patriots in a game that's already being described as "on this Sunday".

For streams, Brits need not worry as the game is live and free... on Channel 5?! How did those shits get the rights? No doubt with pundits like Super Bowl winner Osi Umenyiora and Nadine Coyle shagger Jason Bell, and hopefully Iron Mike Carlson at some point.

If you're not so lucky, I dunno use NFLbite or Fawanews or something.

As I'm sure our regulars are aware, please bear in mind this is a comfy thread. Yanks are welcome but please take your shoes off inside the house and don't be a daft cunt eh?

Kickoff is around 11.30pm GMT once they've saluted the troops, shot down some Ayy Lmaos, wheeled out a near-dead statesman to toss the coin, and rolled out some fat lass to whoop and holler their way through the anthem.

Is going for a field goal really early on a common thing? I would have expected Seattle to go for a touchdown. They didn't look like they were struggling to advance.
>>
>>153334385
Since Afghanistan, Syria and Iraq bankrupted us. The highwater mark for an invasion of Iran would've been 2011-2013. Best we can muster now are weekend strikes after the markets close.

At this stage, it would only be an acceptable risk if you had a single yard to go for a touchdown. Anything else would be late-game desperation.

Look at a map of Iran and tell me where American soldiers are going to invade from. The plan was to invade from Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq. People who say there's going to be an actual war are retards who don't know how anything works. For Desert Storm we had 500,000 faggots sitting in the Saudi Arabian desert for months before it happened. For Operation Iraqi Freedom we had 300,000 squatting in the desert before invading. We have nobody sitting around waiting to invade Iran.

The /pol/ shit is largely overblown, but it's true that the infrastructure is disintegrating. My local supermarket can no longer be relied on to have everything I need.

I have friends who are massive alcoholics who go out watching football in the pub a couple of times a week. I don't know if it's the same as in America, but if you want to do it, I can assure you that it does still happen. Although my friends prefer a classy "sports bar" to the local dive pubs that they've been barred from, so it might not be quite what you're after.

Iranians are universally very wary of CIA interference, since this would be the third or fourth time their government has been overthrown by US interests. Most likely in my opinion is that Trump will just declare war randomly in the middle of the night and send 400,000 troops on aircraft carriers across the Atlantic, and Iran would just have to sit and watch them approach because there's nothing they can do about it. They would probably beg Trump to make a deal, and Trump loves deals, so there wouldn't even be any fighting by the time they got there.

Come to think of it, Americans never pronounce the word that way when in a military context, only for leisure activities like sports or video games. Just like how everybody uses the bastardized pronunciation for Notre Dame the university but never for the cathedral.

I'm looking forward to gentrification, because I live in the very worst part of south Manchester, and they're demolishing loads of it and rebuilding it. It was a nice place in the 1970s, and has not changed at all since then. Derelict office buildings abound. The houses are pretty nice, but they are used as social housing for some of the worst scum in the city, so gentrification would make me very happy.

Seahawks defense is that good, specifically Macdonald's system. Basically he plays exclusively nickel or one less linebacker in exchange for an extra safety which is normally for pass heavy situations, even in run heavy situations. This lets him have 2 high safeties and alot of maneuverability in his calls. The counter is to run the ball but teams haven't been able to.

This vid explains it a bit more. It's a bit jargon heavy but I'm pretty confident that the Pats are done outside of someone not the defense fucking up big time.

One of the pundits over here, a former player I've never heard of, said before the game started that "This is not the game to try something new." I understand the philosophy behind that, but I get the feeling this game is extremely tactically unadventurous. There are so many things that must be allowed in the rules which just never happen. I want lateral passes and safeties, but neither team is willing to try anything.

If the grind continues in the Seahawks favor expect to see the kitchen sink so to speak. Reason why nothing "new" is tried is because there's a limited amount of time to install plays and practicing lateral passes takes away from practicing the other 99.9% conventional plays.

One thing I always thought was strange was that the structure of football (our football) would also perfectly appeal to Yankee cultural sensibilities. The jock Chad would be the striker, his buddies the wingers and the midfielders would be the brains and brawn and the goalie would be the heckin wholesome underdog. It seems that it'd fit the US like a glove. American football without the stop and start, with its chess like structure, would be a hit with Europeans. Same thing with baseball. You'd think Americans would like simpler games with the structure of football and basketball but alas.

It's alright, as a brown skinned pink palmed meheecan. I see it all the time and experienced it as well. The issue is that women tend to get addicted to the night life instead of who actually sets up vibes of the night (thier partner). So you have youthful women and youthful men going on outings where drinking and drugs are widely available. Now you have a huge chemical imbalance where both parties are going all over the place neither get married or start a relationship.

Once upon a time soccer actually was popular in the US (in the 1920s) but FIFA chicanery against our main league killed it, so soccer was seen as something of foreign subversion ever since. The American industrial/media wherewithal at the turn of the century was too robust compared too most of the rest of the world at the time as everyone started finding the leisure time for sport to settle for "simpler games". We played football, basketball, baseball, and hockey all at once simply because we could.

This is true. They give it a lot of juice, like Russians with Ice Hockey. They adopted it and made it their own. It's also worth mentioning that I did get into baseball because of anime, so there's that. If only Japs funneled that energy into football, maybe they'd pull a Croatia.

I'm aware. I played a lot of JLeague saves on footy games and researched it but still, they're on a good track. Iirc, the sport is massively overtaking baseball with the youth who consider Bball unc shit and want to be apart of the rest of the world, not a small group of nations barely keeping this sport alive. It's not unfathomable that it could be the no.1 sport although Japs cling to baseball because they consider football a globalised sport that leads to muttling hafus which is a valid concern.
>>
>>153344603
>I really liked the laid-back nature of baseball and its audience who don't take it deathly seriously
That's because there are 162 games in a season. They don't take it seriously because most games don't have much individual importance

It's so often said that sports are an escape from your troubles, but I like to think of baseball as the one where you face them. Games being almost every day matches the daily grind of life and the level of luck involved teaches you to roll with the punches. Even the time of year its played reflects a sense of death & rebirth.

I can't decide if I like what Sam Quek's wearing in the studio on the Channel 5 coverage. On the one hand, it's a bright red velvet suit, which is awesome. On the other hand, the shoulder pads make her look like she's come dressed as one of Flash Gordon's enemies.

Thank you all for a comfy and enjoyable thread, anyway. And now we can go to bed!
