As a cycling and wrc fan, wrc should look at cycling. They both race on public roads and have the same issues with organizing; and also making money; because of that.

WRC puts their whole sport behind a paywall
(both irl and online) which is totally ridiculous.
Cycling does the opposite allowing everyone to enjoy the sport. This results in more visibility for sponsors and more merch sales, because more people watch. It makes fans feel closer to everything and accessible.
For the big races they build VIP areas where you pay to be at the best spot possible (and/or for networking purposes where business people are just there to eat and act like they're there for the race).

As a kid I loved rally and always went to watch with my uncle. But more and more rally's started following the wrc example of charging money to go watch. So we eventually stopped going. It makes you feel less connected with the sport, lowering the overall interest for it. Basically I'm just watching from afar now, by watching the recaps.
