When you look at the other big clubs in Brazil, they are all from the 4 biggest cities in the country. Makes sense. But then you have Santos FC, who is from the 56th largest city. But they've become a legendary club with players like Neymar and Pele. How did they do it?

Santos is the biggest city in SP coast. Is it small compared to capitals? Sure, but its not really irrelevant, its in a strategic place. Also they got luck with Pele. Its easier to "make football" as we say here in Santos than in some capitals like Vitoria, Campo Grande, São Luís, Manaus etc.
