This guy is on the verge of suicide and you're laughing.
20 wasted years of training.
He'll have to wait 4 years for another chance, which might not even happen.

He had the fastest time in Run 1 of the slalom and had a pretty big lead going into Run 2
His ski got hooked on one of the gates/poles and he ended up dead last with DNF (did not finish)
His head was probably in another place given pic related

After that he just wanted to get away from all the cameras and started walking into the woods to have a moment with himself
Didn't talk to any media and went straight to his hotel room

Norwegian anger is spreading after Switzerland's Loïc Meillard won gold in the slalom. Thierry Menet, one of the Swiss slalom coaches, is the target of fierce criticism.

Menet was just a few meters below the spot where Norway's Atle Lie McGrath, who had been leading at the halfway point, straddled a gate in the second run. This made Meillard's Olympic triumph in Bormio a reality. Menet's immediate jubilation was immense; he first clenched his left fist, then immediately hugged an Austrian coach (who was celebrating Fabio Gstrein's silver medal), while a frustrated McGrath skied past and threw down his poles. The 25-year-old, who was wearing a black armband following the death of his grandfather, took off his skis, left the course, stomped off in a rage, and lay down in the snow near the woods.
>>
"He could have waited two seconds until Atle had passed," former ski racer Maria Therese Tviberg, Olympic bronze medalist with the team in 2022, complains on Norwegian TV about Menet's behavior. "I wondered if he was going to go and beat him up. I would have been so angry." “I know this coach, and he only cares about Switzerland and his people.”

Ski icon Kjetil André Aamodt, who was also present in the TV studio, said: “I wouldn’t have done that if I were the Swiss coach. I understand he’s happy, but they’ve already won three Olympic gold medals. This was something special, but it was probably a spontaneous reaction.” The four-time Norwegian Olympic champion believes Menet didn’t mean any harm.

Later, McGrath also commented: “That was the first thing I saw. I don’t need to say anything about it. It’s clear what I think,” he said when asked about Menet.

Swiss Apology to the Norwegians
Menet’s celebration also displeased Matteo Joris, the head coach of the Swiss slalom team. “I apologized to the Norwegians because of it,” Joris told Blick.

It's just a grandparent ?
>>
>>153488615
It was taken down
>>
honestly i don't care how close you are to a grandparent, if you're an adult and your grandparents are still alive you're already in the minority of the population; most people's grandparents die when they're kids. if that throws your life into turmoil you've got no chance going forward with what more painful things life will throw at you.

telling people how to feel is pointless anon.

>The 25-year-old, who was wearing a black armband following the death of his grandfather
I'm sorry for him but does the world have to give him special treatment because his grandpa died a week ago? Did the coach have to wait to show happiness for a gold medal just to avoid making the losers upset?
When a tennis player wins Wimbledon he starts celebrating the second the last point is made, is this insensitive or even mean towards his opponent?

It's unsportsmanlike behavior.

>>153500797
I know it's hard for you to understand but civilized people behave themselves. Your kind might get there someday.
>>
>>153513816
except if it was your country you would celebrate as well.
it was all looking like norway would get the gold and no one expected mcgrath would fail like that.
just a honest reaction to gold from the coach.

Some said this to me when my grandad died. Which i found very fucked up but then i guess people dont have close families or positive relationships
>>
>>153500520
Death affecting him is normal and most non autists would understand. If he thought it would prevent him from performing at his brst he should have withdrawn. Or even when he does fuck up and not win not do whatever this was and just finish the race, get hugs and understanding nods of the head.
