On Shrove Tuesday, various towns around the UK have a medieval mob football game still. It normally involves hundreds of strong young men and a big ball which has to be kicked, punched and scrummed to "goals" usually at the opposite ends of town. Alnwick, Ashbourne, Atherstone, Sedgefield, Corfe Castle.
