They skin up without the taped off obstacle course. It still has bootpack sections but without the stairs. And there are multiple laps each taking about 30 minutes to complete. It is competitive backcountry skiing whereas this meme was done on a green circle run.

This was the biggest fuck up of this Olympics so far, because they LITERALLY picked the most meme version of mountaineering possible. Mountaineering can be as extreme as you want it to be, but the competitive kind is usually an endurance type of event on a semi-artificial course.

I was really looking forward to this based on what I'd heard about it, ultimately it was a disappointment but I'm still intending to check out some of the 'proper' event given how many people have told me this was basically a meme version. This is by far the most retarded recent new event in all olympics and that's saying something when break dancing was a thing. It would've been fun if it was a long event, but it's 3 minutes long and determined entirely by who can swap gear faster
