>skate to music from within the past century
>simple tension and release structure
>choreograph flashy elements synced with the emotions of the music
>move on rhythm
>evoke a sense of fun/enthusiasm
>throw in some cutesy/kawaii gestures
>don't fall
is that really all it takes?

you don't need quads.
you don't need elaborate costumes and/or costume changes.
you don't need the most technical combos.
you don't need the FotM arm motions during your spins.
you don't need to do your own voiceover.
you just need vibes and an animal-inspired cosplay.

The Japanese girl only lost cause she fell so yeah not falling is a big deal
>>
Isn't "Don't fall" also why the guy from Kazakhstan won?
>>
>>153566373
In her case the competition didn't really do anything special for their performances so in those cases yes that's all it takes
>>
apparently don't fall is a pretty hard thing to do

my bewilderment stems from the rest of the competition not having such simple elements within their programs. to both the trained and untrained eye, liu had the best vibes of the entire competition and it wasn't even close. if she didn't gold then there would be an uproar from the entire spectrum of the fanbase that "her vibes were too strong, she should have won." no mention of her technicals would be needed. musicality, accessible choreography, playing to the crowd, and the enthusiasm are what won her the audience, judges, and the gold.

so why don't other skaters do these things? these are trivially easy to incorporate and yet none of liu's competition did? why are so many of them skating to such boring, cliche music? they never throw a bone to the audience to get them to buy-in. timing your jumps to a beat drop, body motions during sweeping vocals, literally popping during pops. most of the skaters don't even seem to be able to dance on rhythm.

anyway, total raccoon domination.
vibes > everything else.
>>
If it's that simple why don't you do it? We'll watch you in the crossdressing skate finals in 2030.
>>
>>153567255
The current scoring system is rewards chasing difficulty, so that's what most people do. That's the whole point of the Russian loli quadbots. Under the old system difficulty wasn't quite as important and you got rewarded more for creativity and vibes, but it was more subjective and therefore caused controversies.

I love how supportive the women figure skaters are of each other, it's very wholesome <3
>>
>>153568906
liu wasn't some outside, improbable competitor; she was slated as a medalist and especially so after the short-program and team-event result.

i'm not saying "take some jobber and max out her vibes and she'll have a shot." again, just confused why the other top-line talent aren't incorporating relatively simple theatrics. ami tries/tried and her short-program was praised for it but her attempts during the free fell flat and her attempts get nowhere close to liu's.

i'm to believe that alysa liu is just that much more charismatic than the entire field? that her choreographer is the only one that actually understands dance? that her team are the only ones that understand that the judges can be swayed by the crowd?

raccoon.

If we're honest, USA is only winning because Russia is banned. The point tally this year has been poor.

She is very marketable for the sport. I think that's why they let her win. Imagine how many gen alpha American girls will get into figure skating now.

I just assumed it's because the new generation has a different approach. I've seen that trend in quite a few sports I believe. Fwiw I enjoy the strong rivalries too as long as they're not underhanded or excessive, but this has been a refreshing change of pace.

then they get into the sport and their coaches tell them "nah, you're skating to swan lake." there are two alysa lius, the one that competed at beijing and the one in milan. which one is the correct philosophy?

I like the Russian girls as well, it's not the Russian skaters' fault everyone around them manipulated them. Alysa had to leave the sport due to manipulation and pressure before coming back to do it on her own terms. The Blade Angels seem to have made a conscious choice to treat their fellow skaters with care and respect.

Than the ENTIRE field? No probably not. Than the two Japs who were her only real competition? Yes. Asians aren't exactly known for thei charisma anon
>>

Alysa in Milan.
One thing that boomers and millennials don't understand is that causing anxiety it's stupid. You don't need to get to the Olympics, just look at 9-to-5 jobs, where boomers and millennials go crazy if the timeline for changing the color of a button on a website is delayed by two days.

Cope. Adeliia, Russia's current champion (and coached by Eteri), was there and lost. Cope. You will never see routines like the ones your referencing again even if Russia returns under its own flag because they were made possible by sub-17 age limits and Eteri's original slavery coaching regime which has been intentionally neutered (especially its systemic doping component, which was often done without the skaters consent and was 100% in play at prior Olympics).

It is likely on Adderall.
She disclosed herself that she was diagnosed with adhd, so she probably managed to get a therapeutic use exemption from WADA.
I have never seen a skater so trashy as her.
She needs to be competing on OnlyFans, not in Olympic figure skating.
I never want to see this kind of pseudo bohemian ahit again.
If you like her looks or her character, that's cool. She just needs to stay the fuck off the ice.
