I love Brazil and really really want baseball to be bigger in Brazil. So I wrote a song to encourage Brazilians to watch the WBC tomorrow:

https://vocaroo.com/11UnBVnE1Kyr

Tomorrow is Brazil vs USA, I'll be rooting for Brazil (as an American).

I consider myself a sort of bard of Brazilian baseball.

Behind the lyrics:
I know Brazil is not Caribbean BUT some consider Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana as Caribbean so why not Portuguese Guiana (Amapa) :) that's why I say "sort of Caribbean)

Kickball was one of my favorites sports to play in school, I think most people like it when they play it.
Unfortunately it's not really something we play outside of PE classes.
>>
>>153752384
Baseball with football combined?
>>
>>153752640
more like, baseball but you kick the ball instead of using a bat.
And we used cones to mark the bases
it's really fun
>>
>>153753324
Kickball is so GOATED. Used to play it all the time at recess and gym class. I always thought it should be an Olympic sport.

Did you play where you can throw the ball at a runner to get him out?

Perhaps not finishing last on our group will convince the demons and cogs at our government to invest more than just a caldo de cana and R$7,50 in our national baseball just like how they did with basketball but im not so sure if we can beat britain

There's a pre-existing Portuguese diaspora as other anons already said but it's apparently a good state to be undocumented. Same applies to Virginia, where there is also a large Brazilian diaspora.
>>153749179
No need to go that far, there's a decent baseball scene in São Paulo. Mostly Japanese-Brazilians though. It just needs more investment especially when it comes to getting young kids into the sport.

That's not the point though. If that's your reasoning for liking a sport you are going to have to learn everything. Throwing is a nice general skill though, but that's it.

Baseball is on the same level of interestingness for me as Dodgeball and other PE activities

Fielding. In fact I would say the most noticeable difference between low and high level play is the ability to cleanly scoop a grounder. You also need on-the-fly projectile physics calculation to know where to be for a flyball, and do it with the sun threatening to burn out your eyes.

Can you explain baseball to me as if I were a brazilian? How does one score?
>>
>>153752384
Yeah this is a P.E. sport in America too. Some Millenials made kinda of informal adult leagues, to get drunk and meet chicks (it seems), but IDK if those are still a thing.
>>
>>153793857
It's a weird game. You have the defense throw a ball at you and you have to hit it with your bat to be able to move. After that you have to navigate 3 bases and a final "home plate" base to score. If you are touched with the baseball you are out. The other team isn't allowed to throw it at you though. They have to touch you with the ball (or a glove holding the ball.) It's pretty fun to play. Old people I think like it because it moves slow enough for them to comprehend.
Americans usually drink a lot of beer and eat hot dogs while watching it. (Unless it's a playoff.)
Asians get way more hyped. Japan's team in Osaka the Hanshin Tigers are the loudest. Tokyo's other team Yakult Swallows are the quirkiest.

A Japanese Amercian made a documentary on Netflix called Koshien: Japan's Field of Dreams about their big high school tournament. Good if you are a weeb.

Explaining baseball to a Brazilian friend of the family when we took her to a game was one of the most frustrating experiences of my life. Not because of her per se, but dealing with just how alien baseball is compared to all the other sports of trying to score an object into the opposing symmetrical half. We had to explain quite literally everything, nothing came intuitively. Though it was funny when she noted that the team must have been so bad because the players were so old. She had in fact been looking at the coaches wearing the same uniforms as everyone else, once again an alien concept from just about any other sport out there.
>>
I hope Brazil at least manages to defeat Britain.

Theres the guy that throws the ball and the guy that hits with the bat
The purpose of the guy that throws the ball is to throw it enuff times through the guy that hits with the bat while he cant hit it

The purpose of the guy that hits with the bat is to hit strong enuff that the defense of the guy that throws the ball cant catch it until it hits the ground once
Another objective of the guy with the bat is to after he hits the ball he must run as fast as possible to the base or else hes OUT, his entire objective is going through all bases and the defense's job is to avoid that

The purpose of the defense is to catch the ball while mid air, if they manage to do this the guy with the bat is OUT, if they dont and the ball hits the ground they must catch it as fast as they can and throw it to every base before the guy that hits with the bat can manage to run in to

A homerun is when the guy with the bat throws the ball so hard it goes to the fans in the audience and it basically becomes impossible to catch the ball, if that happens the guy that did the homerun plus everyone that was already in the bases get one free 3-base run which equals scoring once
>>
>>153808212
+
So basically to score you just need either a homerun, or for your guys on the base to manage to run through all 3 bases without the defense getting the ball on their base first

I never thought about this. A lot Central/South American countries are into baseball but it was never popular here. Somehow american football is getting popular. What is ironic is that the same people pushing it are the socialist/commies who used to pretend to hate the U.S.

Liking a sport does not equal you like everything about the country that made a sport, are you fan and defender of england just because you like football?
>>
>>153811003
We are talking about a group of people who made part of their identity their "hate" of the U.S.
Not liking certain aspects =//= hating it. You don't have to be a weeaboo but it would be strange to love japanese cinema/anime if you hate Japan. The comparison with football don't make sense considering that football is way bigger than England. Hell. English teams barely are in the top 5 best football teams right now. American football is basically just a U.S thing.

The guy that launches the ball needs to launch enuff times without the guy with the bat hitting it back.
If the guy with the bat hits it back the defense needs to catch the ball mid air or else they need to throw the ball as fast as they can to each of their bases before the guy with the bat can run to them, if they managed to do so before he can reach a base them he's OUT and another player takes the bat to continue (every team has 3 OUTs to waste, after that they need to change sides, which is basically the attacking team goes to defense and the defending team goes to attack.)
If the guy with the bat runs through 3 bases or hits a homerun (when you hit the ball so strong it goes to the audience) then they score.

Theres more rules but thats the basic jist of it. Unironically if you still have a wii just play wii sports it teaches like 25% of the actual game, otherwise just continue watching and you will eventually get it.
