Considering that India has >10x the population of Mexico (scary, right?) ... they are worse for sure. Cricket is played by like ten countries and half of these countries are shitholes, Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka are elite cricket nations - you can't tell me these countries are genuinely good
Bangladesh and Pakistan also have higher populations than Mexico (245 and 170 million to 130 million) and basically nothing to show for. Pakistan used to be good at field hockey, but it's been decades since they accomplished anything
Philippines with its population of 115 million also come to mind. They basically spam manlet boxing success, but are worse than Mexico, I believe - and Mexico would curbstomp them at football, baseball, probably even basketball
Vietnam has 105 million people and probably even less to show than the Philippines. I can at least name one decent Filipino athlete (Pacquiao), I know their national team has qualified for some tournaments before (basketball world championships). Vietnam? No fucking idea. I think they like football, but they have zero output, much less than Mexico for sure
I'd also put Indonesia and its 285 million ahead of Mexico in the embarrassment ranking. They aren't that great at badminton either afaik, not enough to explain having twice the population and being shit everywhere else
In Africa, Congo DR comes to mind. 115 million people. Some okay footballers, but worse than Mexico. And nothing else, I think

But well, of course culture and wealth also play a role. Mexico certainly is a more obvious letdown although they aren't super rich

Australia is overperforming despite their tiny population, maybe because they are rich and have enough free time to indulge in sports. Most of Mexico and Philippines are too busy starving to have the luxury to be into sports. Sports is a sign that you are a developed nation.
