What's the point of home-plate umpires if strike-zones can be done electronically? Just have the ump watch a monitor of the game and he can signal whether it's ball or strike based on the real time footage.
Yelling at the ref on the tv screen is a big part of sports for many.
It's to remind haters who runs the show
>>153839231It's all metaphorical, calling a strike or a ball was never the goal, it's all about internal change
>>153839231The strike zone box is 2 dimensional when technically the strike zone itself is 3D. That and the fact that the strike zone has been developed based on human limitations means that going to a purely digital zone with the exact same rules might produce some odd results. The problem is that baseball is not just traditional but excessively traditional. They would rather keep the current wording of the rule and all the bad calls than go electronic and adjust the wording to produce a result which is accurate to the spirit of the old rule.
>>153839231To speed up the game. The home plate umpire only really makes about 20-25 close calls a game
no umps = no boone tantrums
Plays at home plateHandling time out from catcher/batterHandling lineupsArguments with the managers
>>153839904>The home plate umpire only really makes about 20-25 close calls a game>still often gets 5-6 wrongNot the point you think it is
>>153839918>Plays at home plateextremely rare and can just use a homeplate camera for it.>Handling time out from catcher/battershouldn't be allowed anyways>Handling lineupsdon't need a homeplate umpire for that>Arguments with the managersa call has never been over-turned due to an argument and it's all just theater.
>>153839231that's itYEERRRRR OUTTTTA HERE!!!!
>>153839231technology and pitch clocks destroyed baseball.Give managers 1 or 2 challenges that should be it.
>>153839231the square is just a digital projection of where the very front of home plate is. a major league pitcher can easily throw a slider or curve with enough break to catch the back part of the plate without hitting the digital square at the front.
