>why Pavel Bure wanted out of the Vancouver Canucks by 1998
Pavel Bure didn't like the fishbowl atmosphere in Vancouver.
He is an ultra private guy who couldn't even get any privacy at all in Vancouver.
Vancouver saw Bure as a bigger celebrity than other actual Canuck stars like The Sedin Twins (Henrik & Daniel), Markus Naslund and Todd Bertuzzi.
Bure-Mania was just on a completely different level.
>>
I think Pavel Bure's privacy preferences fed into the fishbowl atmosphere, because he came off as a mysterious unknown.
>>
isnt vancouver just 90 percent asian women with white fever? Thats what i read on the internet. dude probably couldnt avoid the army of them trying to love him long time
>>
despite Pavel Bure's celebrity status in Vancouver, people barely knew him as a human being beyond hockey, and whenever personal non-hockey info about him did come out, it was compelling stuff such as:
> Pavel Bure firing his own dad
> Pavel Bure has alleged ties to the mafia
all that shit really motivated people in Vancouver to want to get to know him and get closer to him even more
>>
Please be kind to the Canadians today. They’re going through a rough time.
>>
honestly, getting traded to a place like the Florida Panthers really helped ease Pavel Bure back to a proper life outside of hockey (when off the ice), both from a contract and lifestyle perspective.

because Bure was finally able to get the privacy in Florida that he could never get in Vancouver.
>>
even when he was with the New York Rangers, Bure was still allowed to retain his private lifestyle

Imagine going from playing somewhere where you can't have a personal life, people taking pictures of you in public and out eating dinner...to going somewhere where nobody had a clue who you are. It must be a sense of relief.
>>

he didn't live in vancouver, he lived in the american exclave of point roberts for tax purposes, people would go to the suburban bars on the canadian side hoping to meet him
>Vancouver saw Bure as a bigger celebrity than other actual Canuck stars like The Sedin Twins (Henrik & Daniel)
bure was single and liked to party with mogilny
daniel lived central in vancouver, but was also a boring family man type, you would see him at the grocery store but not a private table at the roxy
henrik lived way further out of town, but think it had something to do with horses

tl:dr bure wanted a low tax place to live (florida) where he could party (miami)

Why don't the Canucks press more on this point as a possibility when they recruit players? And why doesn't Canadian hockey media talka bout this more? That's a huge advantage in comparison to other Canadian teams. You can play in Vancouver and live in Washington with no state income tax.

in cities with more than 2 newspapers

>Why don't the Canucks press more on this point as a possibility when they recruit players?
there's a separate tax deferral program that all canadian teams have that's supposed to equalize it, don't think many players take advantage of it
>And why doesn't Canadian hockey media talka bout this more?
that would require talking about a team other than toronto
>That's a huge advantage in comparison to other Canadian teams. You can play in Vancouver and live in Washington with no state income tax.
you get charged local taxes per game, it becomes more of a federal issue or for sponsorships
like california charges players at 1/82 their salary per game played
