That's pretty cool, I'm glad Brazil has a more developed baseball scene than Peru. Have you played? Do you have a favorite MLB team? How did you end up following the Japanese league?

Peru has silver medal in the bolivarian games few motnhs ago and usually is the bestg sotuh american team outside of brazil and venezuelan

I just got into baseball some time ago and I didn't know that now I hope I can get the national team soon and meanwhile I'm waiting for the MLB to start and watch some games.

Also do you know Japanese? I've heard baseball in Brazil is promoted by the Japanese diaspora. Is that true?

I recommend check a local team on peruan baseball federation if you want to play

There has a lot of baseball, free also, not just MLB

MLB is good, but doesn't has the best atmosphere imo, asian and latino baseball are the best on it

I'm not japanese dependent, but I studied Japanese beacuse lot of stuffs I like comes threre

Yea baseball is largely organized by Japanese decendents but nowadays is more open to everyone, you probally noticed this time our national team has more people than before

Ah, I was wondering what happened to you considering how excited you were when Brazil qualified.

I'll give a summery of the teams for the first match. (dont expect this level of detail for all teams i cba)

Okinawa Shogaku (沖縄尚学) is a private school from Okinawa Prefecture. They are the premier team from Okinawa, having made 20 appearances at Koshien, the most of any school from the prefecture. They are one of only two Okinawan schools to have ever won the tournament, doing so three times (Spring 1999, Spring 2008, and Summer 2025). Their most recent Koshien appearance came this past summer, where they won the tournament. As the defending champions, they are considered strong favourites.
Fall stats: 6 W, 1 L; AVG .303; 1 HR; 1.22 ERA

Standout player: Ryosuke Sueyoshi (末吉 良丞) #1, Pitcher, 3rd year.
61.2 IP / 2.04 ERA / 47 H / 60 K / 24 BB / 14 ER (previous Koshien + U-18 national team stats).
An ace pitcher who won last year’s Summer Koshien as a second year student, he also represented Japan in the 2025 U-18 Baseball World Cup. He is one of the most highly rated players in this tournament and a projected top draft pick.

Media ranking: A

Teikyo (帝京) is a private school from Tokyo Prefecture. This will be Teikyo’s 27th appearance at Koshien, but their first since Summer 2011. They are a former powerhouse, having won Koshien three times (Summer 1989, Summer 1995, and Spring 1992). Teikyo won last fall’s Tokyo tournament and qualified for the Meiji Jingu Tournament, earning a spot in Spring Koshien. The school is also highly successful in soccer, having won the Soccer Koshien six times and has produced a large number of J.League players.
Fall stats: 8 W, 1 L; AVG .354; 7 HR; 1.61 ERA

Standout player: Ryunosuke Medai (目代 龍之介) #8, Outfielder/Pitcher, 2nd year.
27 AB / .370 AVG / 10 H / 2 HR / 11 RBI / 4 SB.
A power hitter who has stated he aims to hit seven or more home runs at Koshien (which would break the tournament record). He also hopes to play in the Majors.
Sidenote: Teikyo has a Hafu pitcher named Pascal Junior (Nigerian-Japanese).

>>153924695
>I recommend checking a local team in the Peruvian Baseball Federation if you want to play.
I've checked but there are no news since last year, I guess nothing has happened since then, I expect more things to show up in April and beyond.

>There is a lot of baseball available, and much of it is free, not just MLB.
You mean in Brazil or online?

>MLB is good, but it does not have the best atmosphere in my opinion. Asian and Latin American baseball have the best atmosphere.
What do you mean? The fans? The stadiums?

a designated hitter is a player who only bats and doesn't play a defensive position
every other batter has a defensive position except for him
>>
>>153925114
So they didn't use a DH before? Well, I hope the game gets more interesting, since from what I'm reading, having a DH makes hits and runs more likely.

in the old days the pitcher used to also bat, but since pitchers usually tend to suck batting due focusing on pitching, they eded up creating the DH

this why ohtani is special, rarely someone is good on both, specially noways

From what I'm reading not having a DH was part of the strategy, right? Since I see you have an order on when do players play.

>Thanks for all your answers.
no probs, ask away and we will try to help you

>>153925433
some traditionlaist think that there was a strategy to know where in the lineup you put the pitcher, but i disagree in parts with the idea DH removes strategy

in fact it add another one, not only you need to decide where in lineup it goes, but also the type of batter you will use

for exemple, you can pick one that bats more ground instead of homerun, or a player tha runs fast

the tatical part of DH is just overlooked beacuse most manegers are lasy and just go use the batter that does home runs

air raid siren = start/end of the game
they sing their school song
>>
>>153925687
air siren signs start and end of a game, while is useless nowadays its part of tradition beacuse its a tradition from 100 years ago before radio was even a thing

the song they play at end is the school anthem, they play both on 2nd inning and then the winner school anthem after the game

while this tradition started in japan, it became part of the game internationally, as you noticied yesterday when venezuela anthem was played after the final
>>
>>153925695

I see now thanks. I didn't know that was a Japanese tradition, honestly that's pretty cool.

Anan Hikari (阿南光) is a public school from Tokushima Prefecture. As one of only four public schools at this year's tournament, they will have their work cut out for them. The school was formed through a merger and was technically founded in 2018, meaning this is only Hikaris third Koshien appearance. They last attended in Spring 2024, where they surprisingly made it to the quarter-finals. The school made it to the finals of the Shikoku regional tournement last fall and thus was selected to go to Spring Koshien.
Stats: 7 W, 1 L; Avg .285; 0 HR; 2.12 ERA
Standout player: None?

Media ranking: B

Chukyodai Chukyo (中京大中京) is a private school from Aichi Prefecture. They are historically the strongest school in the country and have made it to Koshien 62 times, and have won 11 titles (4 Spring, 7 Summer) which is the most for any school. All this should come with the important caveat that, most of their success happened far in the past (I'm talking like 1930s). Their last Koshien appearance was Summer 2024 where they lost in the 2nd round.
Stats: 10 W, 1 L; Avg .283; 1 HR; 2.20 ERA
Standout player: Shōsei Ogita (荻田翔惺) #9, Outfielder, 3rd year. .395 Avg (17-for-43) with 6 RBIs in 11 official games. He the also the captain of the team and idolizes Seiya Suzuki.

Hachinohe Gakuin Kōsei (八戸学院光星) is a private school from Aomori Prefecture, this will be their 24th Koshien appearance and their first since Spring 2024. They have never won Koshien but were runners-up 3 times during the early 2010s. Traditional powerhouse school, they recruit baseball players from across the country and have them board. They also have the largest baseball club of any school at the tournament with 87 members. No MLB alumni but a bunch in the NPB, most notable would probably be Hayato Sakamoto who is a 13x NPB All-Star and won the Gold medal at the 2020 summer olympics with Samurai Japan.
Stats: 8 W, 1 L; Avg: .275; HR: 4; ERA: 1.18.
Standout Player: Akihiro Kitaguchi (北口 晃大) #1, Pitcher, 3rd year. He pitched 62 innings in Autumn with 51 K's and 0.73 ERA. Including a 140 pitch complete game shut out in the semi-finals of the Tohoku regionals.(He also occupies the DH role through the Ohtani rule)

Media ranking: B

Sutoku (崇徳) is a private school from Hiroshima Prefecture. This will be Sutoku's first Koshien appearance since 1993 and their 6th overall. Despite the low number of appearances, Sutoku have actually won Koshien once, 1976 Spring (Exactly 50 years ago btw). Actually, that tournament was the last time they ever won a game at Spring Koshien as in their only other two appearances they lost in the 1st round. The school won the fall Hiroshima and Chugoku tournaments, earning them a place in the Meiji Jingu and this years Spring Koshien.
Stats: 10 W, 2 L; Avg .322; 3 HR; 1.76 ERA
Standout player: Rinku Tokumaru (徳丸 凜空) #1, Pitcher, 3rd year. 85.1 IP, 63 H, 83 K, 15 BB/HBP, 17 R, 1.48 ERA. He pitched 3 complete game shutouts in the fall Chugoku tournament.

team summary for the first game

Shiga Gakuen (滋賀学園) is a private school from Shiga prefecture. This will be the schools 6th appearance at Koshien, they appeared at last years Spring Koshien where they lost in the first round. Shiga Gakuens best performance was at Summer 2024 where they reached the quarter-finals. The school was originally a girl's school and only became co-ed in 1999, so they don't have much history at Koshien.
Stats: 6 W, 2 L; Avg .310; 1 HR; 2.10 ERA

Media ranking: B

Nagasaki Nishi (長崎西) is a public school from Nagasaki Prefecture. This will be the schools 5th appearance at Koshien and first since Summer 1981. Selected via the '21st Century Slot', a special category for teams that overcome adversity or embody the "spirit" of Koshien, Nishi is one of the most academically rigorous schools in the region. Students are only able to practice for 90 mins per day (compared to 3-4 hours for most private schools). The students even developed their own app which tracks their metrics and analytics (see pic), basically a nerd school.
Stats: 5 W, 2 L; .212 Avg; 1.82 ERA

NHK Preview

The first game will feature Shiga Gakuen, making its fourth appearance in two consecutive years, against Nagasaki Nishi High School, which has been selected via the “21st Century Slot” for its second appearance in 75 years.

Shiga Gakuen boasts a well-rounded lineup from top to bottom, with Soma Nakano playing a key role in securing the team’s Koshien berth. Last fall, he posted a .519 batting average in official games and even hit a grand slam in the prefectural tournament.

The pitching staff is anchored by two reliable starters: left-handed ace Yoshitaka Tsuchida and right-hander Aoi Tomoda. Tsuchida will take the mound at Koshien, following in the footsteps of his older brother, Yuki, who pitched in the Summer Koshien two years ago and last year’s Spring Koshien.

Nagasaki Nishi, on the other hand, is making its first appearance since 1951, marking the longest hiatus among the teams in this tournament.

Ace pitcher Hiroki Kuma, while his fastball tops out in the 130 km/h range, excels at mixing a variety of breaking balls with excellent control to hit specific spots, relying on a pitching style that induces weak contact.

With “Time Discipline” as their theme, the team has focused on efficient practice despite limited training time. The manager has even developed a unique app that uses AI to analyze opposing teams and evaluate practice sessions. As a team that has worked together to improve, all eyes are on whether they can secure their first victory at Koshien in 75 years.

summary for the 2nd game.

Yokohama (横浜) is a private school from Kanagawa Prefecture. They have appeared in 39 Koshien tournaments, winning six titles (4 in the spring and 2 in the summer). Yokohama are the defending Spring Koshien champions, having won in 2025, and will be looking to go back-to-back. They are one of the heavy favourites going into this tournament. Yokohama are also the school with the largest student body at this tournament with 2805 students. The school has produced an incredible number of professional players, including multiple NPB Hall of Famers. Notably, Daisuke Matsuzaka attended Yokohama and starred at Koshien in 1998.
Stats: 7 W, 1 L; .327 Avg; 7 HR; 1.93 ERA
Standout player: Shoki Oda (織田翔希) #1, Pitcher, 3rd year. 52.1 IP / 1.38 ERA / 45 H / 32 K / 13 BB / 8 ER. Considered one of the top prospects for the NPB draft, he is aiming to surpass Daisuke, many scouts have been watching him (including the Dodgers).

Media ranking: A

Kamimura Gakuen (神村学園) is a private school in Kagoshima Prefecture. This marks the school’s 15th appearance at Koshien, with their most recent appearance coming in last year’s Summer Koshien, where they were eliminated in the first round. Kamimura has never won a Koshien title but has reached the finals and semifinals multiple times. Over the years, the school has been involved in a bunch of violence scandals from the soccer and baseball teams. (not uncommon among highly sports focused schools)
Stats: 8 W, 1 L; .382 Avg; 4 HR; 0.99 ERA

Toyodai Himeji (東洋大姫路) is a private school from Hyogo Prefecture. This will be the schools 23rd appearance at Koshien, they won Koshien once back in Summer 1977 and their latest appearance was last Summer where they reached the quarter-finals. Their most notable alumni is Shigetoshi Hasegawa, a pitcher who played for the Angles and Mariners in the late 90s/early 2000s and won an All-Star in 2003. The school didn't have the best performance in fall but they did well enough to be selected. They are the Hyogo representative so they'll be boosted by a lot of local support.
Stats: 5 W, 2 L; .239 Avg; 1 HR; 2.73 ERA

Media ranking: C

Hanasaki Tokuharu (花咲徳栄) is a private school from Saitama Prefecture. This is Hanasaki Tokuharu’s 13th appearance at Koshien. Their most recent appearance came in Summer 2024, where they lost in the first round. The school won Koshien once, in Summer 2017, but has not been able to replicate that success, winning only a single game at Koshien since then. Hanasaki Tokuharu has served as the inspiration for two baseball manga, Draft King and Tamayomi, both of which feature fictional versions of the school. The team was Runners-up in last years Kanto Fall tournament, only losing to Yamanashi Gakuin in the finals whtch earned them qualification to Koshien.
Stats: 10 W, 1L; Avg: .325; HR: 5; ERA: 3.13
Standout player: Ryota Kurokawa (黒川凌大) #1 Ace pitcher, 3rd year. 58.2 IP, 54 H, 62 K, 20 BB/HBP, 23 R, 3.07 ERA in the 2025 Saitama and Kanto tournaments. His mother was apparently an Asian judo champion in the 80s.

No one was able to score until the 50th inning. Baseball doesn't have a clock and generally don't end in a tie so games can just keep going. I didn't see that game but they just kept playing until finally one of the teams scored.

second game has some farm boys

Kochi Nogyo (高知農) is a public school in Kochi Prefecture. This will be Nogyo’s first ever appearance at Koshien. They are the second “21st Century School” in this tournament and were selected not solely on their results. In 2021, the team had just three members and no new recruits, forcing them to merge with other schools to field a team, though they have since rebuilt. Kochi Nogyo is also an agricultural school, meaning its players balance their practice schedules with the farming curriculum.
Stats: 2 W, 1 L; .212 Avg; 0 HR; 1.82 ERA

Media ranking: C

Nihon Bunri (日本文理) is a private school from Niigata Prefecture. Bunri are the top Koshien school from Niigata and qualify quite regularly, this will be their 18th appearance. The school have lost in the first round of their last 3 Koshien appearances and they'll be looking to turn that around. Bunri made it to the finals of the Hokushinetsu regional tournament where they lost to Teikyo Nagoya (who also got selected) but this was still considered good enough to make it.

Sure, if that can happen in Japan, could that be replicated elsewhere? I think the United States would be a good candidate. Or is there an event or league that takes up the place of a Koshien style event in the US?
>>
>>153946153
US high school sports only go to the state level, not national like Koshien iirc. Isn't the copa peru basically like this? teams go all the way down to the local level.

I've never watched Copa Peru, but I think it goes best from district, then best of province/state, best of region and so on until someone wins.

So there isn't a national US high school league? Are there plans to be one? I think it would help to make baseball more popular.

>So there isn't a national US high school league? Are there plans to be one?
no and no. like i said, high school sports in the us only go up to the state level. i imagine it's due to logistics and the size of the country.
>>
>>153946272
>Alright. Why not expand it to the high school level as well?
Champ, you could fit like 25 Japans inside the US. That's a whole different ball game in terms of logistics and finances due to our size.
>What it is like?
It's fun. Diff format that Koshien or WBC though. It's double elimination, so you can lose one game and still be in it during the knockout phase. The finals is Bo3, which I think is a good format for baseball. Single elim is nice and has plenty of drama but baseball is such a high variety game that one single game isn't a good indication of who is the best.

Hokushō (北照) is a private school from Hokkaido Prefecture, this is their 11th appearance at Koshien and first since Summer 2019. Their best ever results was reaching the quarter finals in Spring 2010 and 2013 respectively. They haven't won a game at Koshien since 2013. They are the smallest school at this tournament with only 177 students, of which, 47 are in the baseball club. They are more famous for their Skiing program which has produced a number of olympians. Last year, Hokushō won the Autumn Hokkaido tournament and got knocked out of the Meiji Jingu tournament in the quarter finals.
Stats: 7 W, 1 L; Avg: .306; HR: 1; ERA: 1.32.

Sendai Matsudo (専大松戸) is a private school from Chiba Prefecture. This is the schools 6th appearance at Koshien, and their first since Summer 2023. It's a school that's had most of it's success recently, with their first Koshien appearance being only in 2015. The school has technically produced 1 MLB player, Naoyuki Uwasawa, who was briefly on the Red Sox in 2024 before going back to Japan. He is a 3x NPB All-Star and 2x Japan series champion. Sendai Matsudo won the fall Chiba tournament and made it to the semi-finals of the Kanto tournament to qualify for Spring Koshien.
