I've always thought that the growth of the sport in Europe has to pass through Germany and France. Rich countries that could easily find owners willing to throw enough money to build competitive teams, both having leagues that are already somewhat established and their biggest teams already fill the arenas they have, mostly nice arenas too. Now if you had 5 or 6 leagues at a similar level that would make for a good European wide tournament to sell to the sponsors as opposed to 4 matches worth the price in the group stage followed by nothing until the semifinals.
