It's a damned shame what happaned to MJ to hold him back.
>had to waste years in college cuz he wasn't good enough to go pro
>had to take a year off in his prime for getting his dad killed over gambling debts
>ended up in DC with an awful team while still only in his 30s

MJ would own all of the records except for some exceptional bad luck.

He retired completely on his own volition the second time and had he stayed retired he's have been seen as retiring on top.
He knew the sneaker brand was gonna set him up for life
Most NBA players especially, but pretty much all athletes, have the underlying anxiety of playing until you can't get a contract, simply because you retire in your 30s but then you got a solid 40-60 years after that you have to be alive.
I mean Bob Cousy is still alive.
You find old Sports Illustrated and even Time and Newsweek magazines from when Magic retired, they read like obituaries, meanwhile 35 years later and he's still out there, he did well for himself. Maybe not as out in one sense, but sports is one of the last bastions of closeted gay in the Western World.
