We qualified before for 24 teams (twice) and 32 teams (once) tournaments, now we can't even qualify for 48 team tournament. If you were to extend the logic of what happened and I know this doesn't work because UEFA teams are better than other regions, but extending the logic we aren't even in the top 96 (as if we had won tonight we would play Denmark and the winner would go through to the top 48). So what are we - we made it to the top 182th, and there's only like 200 teams in the world cup. Like I say the logic doesn't quite work but the fact remains Ireland are the worst they have ever been in at least 50 years (even before they qualified in 1990 they were damn close a couple of times, and that was when the world cup only had 16-24 teams). And quite possibly the worst Ireland have been relative to other nations since records began.
