Why exactly are assist so special why do they even matter?>Dude that guy just passed the ball and the other guy just happened to score bros a legend Like what the fuck is that?I have no disrespect for these players they were just what popped up when I web searched assist nba
Are you dense? It means that player does the penultimate part before points are scored very successfully. It means that your passes and vision of the game is probably one of the best. And if you just always passed the ball to some GOAT who scores anyway that will show in the statistics too when he's not playing with you
>>154016420So they say but come on.. it's just dumb luck.
>>154016357Low IQ
>>154016545Yes they do
>>154016357granted that the NBA is extremely lax in what they call "assists"
>pass the ball>teammate takes 10 dribbles, steps back, and hits a fadeaway>assist
>>154017019Exactly this. Why even bother counting them
>>154016357I agree. SOME assists are practically 90% of a point, but they are rare. Most assists are just normal passes, and those shouldn't count. To pretend assists are as good as a point or even superior is retarded. This pisses me off a lot when people discuss about Combo players vs Two-way players. Think of 2017 Harden scoring and playmaking with no defense vs Kawhi scoring efficiently and being the best defender in the league. Some niggas will look me in the eyes and tell me Harden was better. Playmaking is 25% of the game, defense is 50%. I don't get the math at all.
>>154017014How so?
>>154017652Agreed
>>154020454the rulebook's definition of an assist is very vague and lets a lot of space for interpretationhttps://youtu.be/jhP6TsgeMOY?t=71this leads to a shitload of passes that are nothing close to an assit that are still counted as such, and some statisticians can be very lax to the benefits of some players, depending on the franchises (because, you see, inflating stats for the franchise players is cool)examples : https://youtu.be/jhP6TsgeMOY?t=560
>>154020899Yes, it’s a bullshit subjective stat, but so what? Just take it with a pinch of salt
>>154016357same in football too. oldfags remember it only began to be used around 15 years ago because people wanted some stat to talk about that wasn’t goals scored.
>>154020899Yeah that's ridiculous >>154030247So there is no reason to celebrate or pretend 90% of these assists even matter or are important >>154030308What you mean there's assist in football?
