which horses that are in the game are actually in this tournament?
>>

Just Forever Young.
Most horses are already retired by the time they get into the game, the only exceptions being Daring Tact and Forever Young and the former STILL isn't even playable despite her retirement.
>>
>>154029517
iirc it rained yesterday

So looks like race 1 was their championship for the Arabian breed, the rest of the races are Thorobreds

2025 Best horse in the world was Calandagan (Irish-bred, French-trained)
This year it's Ka Ying Rising (New Zealand-bred, Hong Kong-trained), at least for now
but many horses didin't yet have a chance to run this year, so they won't be in the ranking until IFHA updates it in april and later
>>
>>154029611
There's no official ranking, but here's the Longines ranking for 2025.
It's hard to define a definite "best horse" since there are so many different distances and surface.
>>

Calandagan is running today in race 8

need an irish horse in uma. it can be short, ginger, pasty, and drunk

Yeah, but it should be an easy win for him with that field. I doubt it will give him a good rating unless he wins by a large (>6) margin

The arguable world championship/most prestige is the Breeder's Cup, which features basically a championship for every possible category.

This along with saudi cup is one of the biggest money events, and the Dubai World Cup is fairly prestiguos on top of being big money.

The Kentucky Derby is the most famous race in America, first saturday in May.

The L'Arc de Triomphe is regarded as the most prestigious European-style turf race and is the one the Japanese are constantly chasing after and have never won.

Thats a crown name, the Mejiros are the most succesful of the bunch that make use of them yes, several G1 winners from the end of the 2nd world war to 2001, sadly vanished in terms of results heading into the late 1990s since they bred and trained their own horses, a practice that is very expensive and they couldnt afford to go through anymore and the mares they were getting for this were lower quality since Sunday Silence kept stealing the best ones.

At least the farm was bought by a heir of the family who was responsible for its founding, so all their former racers can enjoy their time breeding or grazing around in it.
Its Lake Villa Farm now, Mejiro Dober is the last purebred Mejiro living in it, there are also a lot of horses who arent quite fully Mejiro but have the blood of them in there, they just dont use the crownname anymore, save for Mejiro Piola since her owner wanted to honor her.

One problem I've had with Japanese horse breeding is the fact that they, even before the 90's, prioritised foreign bred sires over domestic ones and it's like no shit domestic sires wouldn't be producing good race horses if you pair them with low value mares. Tosho Boy is a prime example, being paired with low value mares for years because the Japanese prioritised foreign stallions until one day the owner of CB Queen, high value mare, wanted him to breed with her and they produced Mr. CB. I mean, yeah no shit my guy.

Horse betting used to be more popular, it's just other form of betting became way accessible. Racecourses in the US also refuse to adapt with the time, which causes the sport to lag behind other sports in term of popularity. Doesn't help that there's a lot of shady stuff going on behind the scene too, with things like possible mob connection, trainers like Baffert doping his horses and never getting punished for it, and the whole animal rights issue.
>>
>>154030702
The french did it
>>
>>154030672
depends on jurisdiction.
in america a very prominent trainer got busted for doping and only got a 3 year suspension. and he wasn't suspended from all of horse racing just a couple states/ownership groups. of course since those ownership groups own most of the major tracks...

one thing that has changed in the last 10 years is more states have banned a formerly common medication called Lasix. it used to be almost every horse in America was on it.

You also have to get an owners license.
If you have one, there are races called claiming races where every horse in the race is effectively on sale for a fixed price.

He got popped for Ipratropium, which was a banned substance in France, but supposedly legal in Japan at the time. It got banned in Japan not long after it so it was clearly considered an advantageous PED
>>
>>154030702
Japan's case is more of a miscommunication one, Deep Impact was taking a medication that allowed him to breath properly as the climate change when he went to France was giving him colds. The medicine was legal to use under these circumstances but Deep was taking it too close to the race so remnants of it were found in his blood when he was drug tested post-L'Arc.
>>154030719
This is more or less because they believed they didnt really have strong sires themselves as most of the local stallions they were focusing on were horses who won a lot, not horses who were good at passing down their genetics.
Rudolf producing otherwise mediocre children besides Tokai Teio was further "proof" to them that they needed a really good foreign stallion to improve their horses's genetic pool. At least they finally got a slap of reality that they SHOULD care because Stay Gold and Deep Impact produced them enough G1 winners for a lifetime.
>>
>>154030724
its the same here with the mob connection stuff. i dont mean they fix races but the majority of people involved with owning racehorses and the big names in the sport are known to be dodgy fuckers you dont want to mess with. im not sure what attracts scumbags to race horses, maybe money laundering or something

>. At least they finally got a slap of reality that they SHOULD care
Unfortunately that slap, along with SundayMan being SundayMan and stallions like Tony Bin, Brian's Time, Real Shadai and Mill Reef not producing any good sires of their own, has led us to now the Japs having to import foreign stallions because 70% of Jap thoroughbreds are related to Sunday Man.

>>

Brian's Time and Real Shadai's quality came out of them being broodmare stallions, it doesnt always have to be about direct results but yeah, BRF bringing Laurel River and some other farm loaning American Pharaoh is a sign that they still dont learn.

Key Facts:

China consumes the most horse meat globally (~421,000 tonnes in 2005)

Italy eats the most in the EU (~900g per person annually)

Mexico produces the most but rarely consumes domestically (exports to EU/Asia)

Horse meat is taboo in: US, UK, Australia, South Africa.

The JBBA, specifically Shizunai Stallion Station, are the ones renting out AP, as well as Sottsass to deal with the inbreeding problem. The Shadai are sticking to the Sunday Man train with Kizuna and Equinox and to be quite fair these are probably some of the only Sunday Man sire lines that will survive the next 10-20 years which is a shame.

They kinda need American Misspelling and foreign sire/broodmare right now because of how inbred everything is at this point.
>>
>>154030853
It is kind of bothersome that the McQueen-Stay Gold stallions are not getting better mares because all of them have to go towards the Shadai funnel, the likes of Gold Ship and Orfevre are not SUPER good at producing winning foals but they have some of the more balanced genes among local sires who are descendants of SS.

Horse racing in the US (I'm not 100% sure about other countries) uses a parimutuel system where the money bet all goes into a pool and payouts are determined based on how much is bet on each horse in proportion to the pool. You don't actually know what your potential payout is until the betting closes.

When you see odds listed in the programs or whatever that's usually the morning line which is what some guy who works for the track thought were the odds of the horse winning.

The odds listed on top here are the live odds (based on the parimutuel pool) and are constantly changing. The number below is the morning line which will not change.
>>
>>154030902
Technically, there are no limits, the horse just needs to be a thoroughbred (will need to pass the race vet check tho)

While I don't like it, it is very understandable that Stay Gold stallions aren't getting better mares. Most good Japanese mares are related to SundayMan at this point because the Shadai was giga-retarded, but that is a story for another time, and it's gotten so bad that it's reaching to a point of 4x4 breeding in a lot of cases. Imported mares will most likely be bred with Sunday Man x Wind in her Hair stallions like Kizuna, Kitasan Black, Equinox ect since that is by far the most successful Sunday Man line and all the good mares in Japan that can breed with a Sunday Man stallion will most likely choose that line over Stay Golds line as well. This all could have been avoided, however it is what is it. At least Agnes Tachyon's line will survive in Brazil.

You can see how the live odds are changing. If someone throws down a huge bet they can really shift things, especially since the pool isn't all that big. There isn't a huge amount being bet on this race so if someone threw down 10 grand payouts could shift a lot

They should have seen this coming because the exact same thing happened before, also caused by the Shadai being giga retards. In the 70's and 80's this same problem, though to a smaller degree, was happening with Northern Taste, another foreign Shadai stallion. Pretty sure Northern Taste is related to, through dam lines of course, all Japanese thoroughbreds in the modern day.
