Seriously…. who the hell lives in this state and how did get so good at college basketball (Men’s and Women’s)?

Don't they also have the whalers

NYC is the largest city in the USA and it probably loves basketball more than any other major city, but it has only 1 shitty power conference team, so all the talent leaves, and New Jersey fucking sucks, so Connecticut got a shit ton of talent. Once the brand was established, then they recruited nationally.

rich people
low academic standards
nice campus
no pro teams
no real football team or other sports to compete for booster dollars
perfect situation for cbb dominance

That's Vermont. Everyone there is crazy weird

I grew up 10 minutes away from Storrs and went to UConn. It is mostly the coaching. Hiring Geno and Calhoun around the same time is insane and set the winning culture in motion. Hurley is already an all time great. But yeah the winning culture momentum (really established by the women's team during their dominance when the men's teams were only solid) motivates the men leading to the insane tournament record the combined teams have.
One thing though that isn't mentioned enough is that UConn isn't a big brand and is often seen below the heckin blue bloods. This creates a huge motivating factor, as if they are the underdogs despite being a dynasty. I can't really think of another situation like it.

>no pro teams
>college football is utter shit there
>one major school
it's the path of least resistance to be competitive at something
