Basically. Most of the royal families are German or of German origin / heritage. Also the Holy Roman Empire. What you probably do not know is that it's official name was the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation (the fucking French especially always omit the last part of the name).

Why? Because Austria-Hungary grouped them together 150 years ago and it stuck. It's one of those odd multicultural countries like Belgium (Flanders, Wallonia, Bruxelles) or Lebanon (Maronites, Shiites, Sunnis + Druze and Alawites). Sometimes they have multiple names for the same town like Londonderry/Derry - Prozor/Rama, Gornji Vakuf/Uskoplje, and major cities are split in two like Mostar/East Mostar, Sarajevo/East Sarajevo, Drvar/East Drvar. East is always small. They have this strange political system where each canton is incredibly autonomous, each one with its own government, there's three 'presidents', 49% of the country is autonomous province Republic of Srpska which is 83% pure Serbian, but here's the catch: it's just playground democracy. There's some German overlord named Christian Schmidt, High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina: a literally who dictator enforced by the international community and he can overturn any decision the native politicians (absolute crooks, basically mafia) try to enforce.
Picrel: B&H's minister of interior (the one for police force), a former policeman fired for illegal use of firearms, with several purchased diplomas, a Muslim, in coalition with Catholics, with a long history of changing political parties. Has a son with developmental issues (keeps saying a tick phrase 'ze' in every sentence), being groomed to succeed him politically.

Idiot dijaspora. Wouldn't it be great for Croatia to have some of the poorest and least Croatian regions such as Sandžak, which is basically Afghanistan of Europe?
And your picrel wasn't even the real NDH. IT's some radical pipe dream where Croatia gets Bačka for the lulz, never have been in Croatia previously, and Sandžak that was simply under AH occupation and never annexed unlike B&H. Istra was never a part of any Croatian state in history before 1945. Međimurje wasn't in NDH. Neither was Boka. There's no such thing as Greater Croatia, only Little Yugoslavia.

Why do Serbs seethe over Kosovo so much but they willingly let themselves get landlocked over some completely fake "Montenegro" country separating itself?
>>
>>154077925
1. Serbs live both in Serbia and Montenegro. Montenegro is Serbia, but in NATO, soon to be EU.
2. Montenegro split off from the country Serbia & Montenegro, it was a union of two countries like Syria and Egypt used to be, but they decided to go their own way. Kosovar Albanians are completely different ethnicity that waged a war of independence. Kosovo was the original Serbian region in middle ages, that's where Peć Patriarchate was, like proto-Serbain Orthodox Church. It got moved to Austrian lands once the Ottomans made it hard to sustain it in Town of Peć. Kosovo was a multi-ethnic region historically, it's just that countless Serbs moved away because Kosovo was underdeveloped. They lost the demographic war. There was also a Croatian village in Kosovo called Janjevo, but I think all the Janjevo Croats moved here by now. Don't take my word, but I think some Saxon Germans lived there too like in Transylvania.
>>
>>154078071
Thanks but you didn't really answer the question. The argument for Kosovo splitting from Serbia is obvious, but for Montenegro it makes no sense. It's not culturally distinct from the rest of Serbia at all, it's the same language, religion, folk customs, the state of Montenegro was founded in the 1800s lmao
>>
>>154078122
Montenegro was a country semi-independent from the Ottomans with large parts of the region under Venice, later Austria. Historically what is now Montenegro was always closer to Croatia and Venice, later Austria and Italy than it was to Serbia proper. Serbia was under 100% occupation before 1830s. Montenegro was a tribal theocracy that modernized into a monarchy. Think how both Irish and Scots are Gaelic, but Irish stayed tribal while Scots went feudal.
When Serbia won WW1, Serbian, Yugoslavian prince Aleksandar usurped Montenegro from his maternal grandfather Nikola and demoted it into just another municipality.
It's kind of odd, but Slavs name regions after rivers and hills. Montenegro = Black Mountain, Lovćen. The tight core region of Montenegro is Zeta, like the river Zeta. It's a nondescript, neutral name for a country that doesn't tell you what the main ethnicity is. Montenegro is a civic state unlike Croatia and Serbia, who are nation states. Montenegro is half Montenegrin and half Serbian, with occasional Croat in Kotor, and some Sandžak Bosnians and Albanians in Bar. Any ethnicity might take over, but they're still Montenegro citizens. Keep in mind not all Montenegro citizens are Montenegrins, but all Montenegrins are Montenegro citizens. There was a civil war over this 100 years ago (whites vs greens. fun fact my great grandfather was technically a white since he was a Croatian conscript who had to switch sides from Austro-Hungarian occupation force to SHS/Serbain force). Ex-Yu countries are very complicated and most people only 'know' about them from the memes and buzzwords.
>>
>>154078437
To me it seems like 1. the vast majority of modern "Montenegro" was added to it 150 years ago and 2. Everyone identified as Serbs until communists pushed the idea that they aren't Serbs. Not even Podgorica or Kotor, the only places most people know from Montenegro, were ever part of the historic region until annexation in the 19th century and after ww2 lmao.

German is a language and a bunch of related ethnicities (that's why the country is called different names in different languages, literally not the same group of people originally)

Imagine if some new country called Evropany formed in 2030, because it consistst mostly Europeans. That's what Germany did. So no, it has nothing to do with Germany because Germany didn't exist

It's not even the real political divide in Bosnia anymore, picrel is. Bosnian Croats identify with it more than the others however Herzegovina is inhabited by all three peoples and a split along that line wouldn't work.

>tribal theocracy that modernized into a monarchy. Think how both Irish and Scots are Gaelic, but Irish stayed tribal while Scots went feudal.

This is a meaningless distinction. Feudalism was a very lengthy Stage during the Stages of History (before Surplus Production emerged). The concept of "staying tribal" doesn't really describe anything in particular, and is largely ahistorical.

>unlike Croatia and Serbia, who are nation states. Montenegro is half Montenegrin and half Serbian

Such a distinction doesn't make any sense, as you all belong to the same Nation. There is no such thing as a Croatian, Serbian, Bosniak or Montenegrin "Nation", as you are all bound by your Serbo-Croat language and your shared genetic origin.

>>154088425
I find it rather funny that a Greek poster is saying this, because with the recent developments of genetic testing, we can see that in the northern parts of central Greece, there are many regions where they have more Serbo-Croat ancestry than Ancient Greek ancestry.

So while their ancestors started out around ancient Czechoslovakia, and then moved down into what was likely Magyar Territory, still speaking a sort of proto-Slavic language, they ended up speaking a Middle-Greek at some point.

These people would have likely turned into mad Serbian Orthodox Chauvanists, but instead became Greeks (whilst having nothing to do with the Ancient Greeks) and thus were stripped of any and all Balkan Lunacy.

>>
>>154088807
>i mean who the fuck cares

Precisely, they didn't care about which individual Nation they incorporated to and thus there wasn't any violence involved.
>>
>>154075207
Yep - apparently when they were trying to figure out the new geography there Herzegovina said she didn't like the idea of calling herself Bosnian as it simply wasn't cool for her, being associated with war and all. However she wanted to still be part of the country that Bosnia was part of due to the nightlife there, favourable tax incentives, etc. Obviously with her supermodel looks she controls tens of millions of simp men.

Hence she got her way and the region is Bosnia AND Herzegovina, so she gets to be part of that nation without technically being Bosnian herself.
